Finally! Here is the pic of that 1871s half dime

Hi,

Just wanted to get this up - don't have a good shot of the obverse yet - glare, etc.etc. It's in an ANAC slab so makes it difficult. Here's the reverse side:

Imagine - only 161,000 of these ever minted - it's in pretty good shape, huh?

    Hi,

What do ya think I could get for this? How about the grade?

So far so good, this side looks ok as a 60 or better. Attractive looking too. The luster could be a shade dull but that's ok for 60-63.

Okay - been trying to get a good shot and this is it. Notice the album toning on the lower left where the coin slipped down in it's album holder:

    Here's another shot of it:

Someone told me I should crack it out and clean it up - what do you folks think?

That probably looks a lot better than the scans show. It looks pretty nice (from what I can tell), and the fairly low demand for half dimes keeps the price down to where they're affordable.

The obverse shots as taken don't show much life to the luster. The reverse looks much better.
Overall too hard to call with the obverse being most of the grade.

I think you should leave well enough alone. Too many coins have already been ruined by cleaning.

I have to agree with Ray. Don't clean it. If the luster is almost gone on the coin, you'll end up hurting the value more than helping. It's a very sellable coin as is even if it's not a great rarity. What grade did ANACS assign to it?????

I would say the coin is in a ms/61 holder. Au 5? wouldn't surprise me though. I agree with Roadrunner's comments. I actually think the obv. looks worn (could be the lighting), but hard to tell from the photos. The rev. seems better. It's a much better coin left alone, than dipped. Leave it alone, as Shiro said, the coin is probably better looking than what the scans are showing. What did anacs grade the coin? If you don't mind me asking image

Sounds about right, by the look of the scans. Don't worry, I can keep a secret imageimage
