Cleaning Coins

My son has some old pennies that have scotch tape residue on them. How is the best way to clean these coins without further reducing their value.

Acetone is one way, but not for the kids. If were talking coins worth a few cents each, try this. WD-40 and wipe gently with fine saw dust. Kids have fun doing this. If the coin was much value don't do this. One problem you might run into is that the coin is toned differently under the tape residue. There used to be a product called Blue Ribbon??? I think, that worked well for this.
