superb gem fantastic toned mintstate buffalo nickel

this coin resides in an ngc ms67 holder the color is outstanding and in person the rim toning is thick and crusty. only when put under a light does this coin come alive! i have seen other nickels one in 68 that had the same type of toning.

this coin is a solid 67 as with the light fly specks on the obverse keeps this from 68!! since these coins are mostly copper 75% when this coin toned over many years these fly specks sometimes appear. the toning is reddish gold to icy blue centers both sides

booming semi prooflike lustre comes through the toning making this coin come alive!!
there are really no marks on this coin other than a small nick on the reverse under the buffaloes shoulder which cant be seen on the scan.

this is one coin that needs to be sight seen as then the toning and the look of the coin can be justified as a fully original coin

sincerely michael

Does that have tab toning or just bullseye toning? The coin is amazing.image

hi there littlewicher i always like to see you on here as you always add something that makes me think or gives me some good insight!

hope you can always keep coming on here

the buff is target toned which is the same as bullseye toned like a target/bullseye with graduated rings going from inner to outer not perfect as mothernature made it not the precise graduations of a factory producing many of the same

it does have some aspects of and similar to tab toning though

That's weird looking! Kinda pretty, I like it. What's the strike like? It doesn't look like a strong enough strike to make higher than 67.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • That is some fantastic looking toning on that nickel. image

Generally, I am not a fan of toning, but if you keep showing us such fantastic examples of toned coins, Michael, I may have to start acquiring some. image As usual, thank you for sharing such a beautiful coin with us.

    Oh my!

I do have a question. How did or could the obverse tone that way in which th central part of the obverse toned in addition to the rim areas? I can see the rim toning due to placement in albums

This is an area of collecting that I have not delved much into. Now my curiosity is up. I can only think of a opened roll in which the end paper hit the center of the coin in addition to the edges. But the rims are toned in too big an area for that to make sense.
