<< <i>we will take a sugar scoop randomly right of the top as we go >>
Oh, great. Just what everyone wants. A scoopful of scraped and scratched coins.
Gee, how interesting that the randomly sampled-Lincoln just happens to be a red UNC, the Indian cent from the 1860's, and the Merc a 1921. What a coincidence!
Yeah, suuure that trunk is that full. Its sides held up very nicely when they had to use the forklift to bring it into the building.
Hmm... I see we have a Dutch auction. The title says "ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK FULL OF OLD COINS", the quantity says 250. That sure is a quite a hoard of steamer trunks!
yes yes nice story yes yes nice way how coins are randomly arranged yes yes
steamer trunk full yes yes unsearched yes yes
did you also notice that there is if you look carefully at the blown up super size pix of the one showing the full trunk with the quilts in the v]backround how at the top right corner you can see where there is the bottom of the wood and how it is a TRAY just sitting about an inch or two from the top where the coins are resting on?? THIS IS THE FULL TRUNK..........LOL i may not be smart and rather dumb but i am not a total idiot........lol
yes yes this is quite a deal they made much on the quilts the old antique dealer gave away in her shopthen she sold all the coins to them for cheap yes yes i mean the old antique dealer lady sits in the shop and buys things almost for nothing then pays the rent and sits there all day so someone can come in and she can give then dealrs of the lifetime under wholesale....yes yes
now you can have a bargain and all the salted coins on top are all the same very heavy circ coins yes yes
the old lady just threw the coins in yes yes and never one that was above fine yes yes......lol
in my 35 years of examiming fully original hoards they usually contained many bright red and hi grade au brown red brown copper coins!!!!!!!!! also before i sold anything i always looked for the key dates....lol
oh and yes they tell us what they have found in other hoards they have sold off by the scoop....lol waht has that got to do with the price of tea in china or this original horde??..........lol
i guess they will get many greedy minds thinking that have lots of money to spend to take a chance..............lol and priced right 9.95.......lol
What I see is Indian cents 1909 Buffalo nickels 1938 Mercury dimes 1945
so first where are the quarters and halves
but the most obvious giveaway here is this
If Aunty had pulled indian head cents which were not minted past 1909 then where are the V nickels (1912) and barber dimes (1916) which most certainly were in circulation at the time she was pulling out the cents?
It is not possible to tell at this point what else there may be.
Oh, and why exactly is it not possible?
I wonder if you get some free ounces of sugar with each lot!

Always buying music cards of artists I like! PSA or raw! Esp want PSA 10s 1991 Musicards Marx, Elton, Bryan Adams, etc. And 92/93 Country Gold AJ, Clint Black, Tim McGraw PSA 10s
I am sure someone could estimate the weight of that trunk from the picture (the studs in the background might help in determining the size of the trunk) and I am also guessing it would be incredibly heavy.
I love a good story though.
Time sure flies when you don't know what you are doing...
You guys all act like you don't think the seller is being altogether truthful. You just wait til Dork Karl reads this thread. Man, the kielbasa's gonna hit the fan.
is it real? is it fake? does it matter? did harold really die? who's buried in the trunk underneat all those coins? did russ root out yet another scam in an endless line of scams? did goose3 put deb up to polishing up all the coins in the trunk and retoning them for sale at five times retail value? how many coins are in a pound of wheaties?
Given LM"s reputation for veracity on these boards, I am astonished at his thinly veiled accusations that something may be afoot here. Why would you doubt this seller? They happened to pluck out a single Merc from this vast unsearched hoard and it turned out to be a 1921. What is your point? I am confident it is back in the chest and awaits your winning bid ...
Any "antique" store owner in Plymouth, MA--home to the Rock and everything else a tourist could want--would be a heck of a lot sharper than the seller describes. The seller could've at least bothered to make up a more a plausible lie.

Good point that a chest like that filled to the brim should have long ago crashed through the rafters, through the first floor and into the basement ... A little padding and I could replicate that photo without ever touching the good stuff ...

It's an old racket. But then look at how many fell for this one.
P.T.Barnum LIVES.
If that trunk were full of coins [i know it is just the trucnk tray but they do not say that] it would crash right through the floor boards.
Oh, and how convenient she took a photo right there in the attic or wherever she bought the hoard.
Suckers will be lining up on this one!
There is no denying, however, that the woman in this auction is at least better looking than in you auction...
I'm going to buy a scoop and won't you guys feel silly when I find a nice XF 1918/17 standing liberty quarter and maybe even a 1916-D merc. in VF!!

<< <i>(Hmm... silly me. I thought Indian cents were only struck for 50 years? You learn somethin' new every day!) >>
Reading the add, I can't tell if they mean the series lasted for 200 years or that you're going to get the ever elusive 1802 Indian cent.
