Ebay Seller Blocks you if you don't bid high enough

This auction really cracks me up. He says if you don't bid over the face value of his coins, he will block you out of all future auctions. Give me a break!!

It would be one thing if he said he'd block those bidders from his auctions, but he actually says "***WARNING*** IF YOUR FINAL ENDING BID ISN'T OVER FACE VALUE, YOU WILL BE BLOCKED FROM ANY FUTURE BIDS ON THIS SITE".

Considering just about everything is against ebay rules, telling people they can't use ebay if you don't bid high enough probably is too.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • That seller is a real loser!

eBay, a laugh a minute. Hey, how did you come out on that (non) Accented Hair?

    Russ, NCNE
  • What an idiot! His starting bid is 1/2 of face value. So, you're not a "SERIOUS BIDDER" if you don't try to get the best deal possible? Plus, he's got a reserve set... so, I doubt that he's going to sell for less than face value anyway.

Note to self: Don't deal with bigjimscoins.

  • LOL! I did the same thing. I bid $19.00 in that auction and one cent in another. I figure if he blocks me that saves me from the need to remember never to bid in his auctions! image

  • Is anyone going to report him to ebay, or send him an email telling him that ebay won't appreciate what he is doing?

Darnit! The minimum bid is now $20. I knew I should have got in on this deal earlier. image Anyone want to cancel their bid so I can get in a <$20 bid? image

Dangit! I was gonna try to bid $19.99, but the bid increment is $1.00! image

And I wanted to be blocked from his auctions, too! image (Or see if he could really block me from using eBay as he implied. He must have big connections!)

Oh, that's good that he pointed that out. I always judge the color of coins by their edge, don't you? image

Geez, what a doofus. Sadly, how typical, too.

PS- Petescorner and I had the same idea. Stujoe, why don't you retract your bid so we can all bid $19.99 and then retract? image

I also tried to bid. Oh well, maybe I can do it on another one of his auctions. I hope someone will report him. I will notbecause Iam too busy doing other stuff right now. Rampage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But report him for what, exactly? Sure, he comes off as a jerk, but what has he done to actually fall afoul of the rules? Can a seller not block any bidder he wishes? (From his own auctions, that is, not all of eBay, as this chucklehead implies.)

Here is an email I decided to send this guy. What do you guys think? I have not hit the send button yet. Richard.

Hi. I looked at this auction and almost chocked on my Iced Tea. Are you for real with your statement? I would be surprised if none of the watchdogs out there reported you to eBay yet. There is a message thread going around one of the coin forums about you and this auction. If you would like the link to it, I will gladly probide it. You cannot put statements in your auctions telling people they have to bid such and such. Also, you state that you will block them from bidding on the site. Well, you cannot do that. All you can do is block them from bidding on your auctions. Quite frankly, I will never bid on your auctions now. You are chasing away people who could be good buyers for you. Cheers!
  • He says final ENDING bid actually. Still pathetic.
  • I figured out that this is an example of fee avoidence. I just reported him to Ebay.

  • This guy is stupid.I did contact Ebay.Instead of just bidding 19.99 why not raise the bid to say 50 or 60.00 then everyone retract.I would bid the reserve but my luck i would get stuck with it lol

Send it, if you like, Rampage. (Go on a Rampage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) image

Make him explain himself, at the very least.

Rampage, I like your email, but how about this one...

Seller, I appreciate your giving me the chance to be banned from future auctions by not bidding high enough on this item. Unfortunately, others have apparently swarmed to your offer raising the current minimum bid to $20.00. Would you mind cancelling some bids so that others, such as myself, can still take advantage of this opportunity?

    Sincerely,
    Petescorner

  • Sounds like you guys are bored. You can't go after every clown that makes a stupid listing on ebay.

    So what's the next bid??
  • LincolnCentManLincolnCentMan Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭✭
What's up with that? Some people place low starting bids so they can have the coin on their "MyEBay" page. That way they can watch the coin to the end... maybe put in a snipe bid.

  • I actually bought a coin from that guy a year or so ago. Turned out to be a nice coin.

I don't recall the funny verbiage in his auction though. That must be new.

Update, just recieved an email from ebay that this auction closed early due to bidder violations. It said that i could bid in the future when the item was relisted. Still not sur how I violated ebay bidding policy by bidding. Hmmm?

I'm not eBay-literate. Can someone give me an example of a "bidder violation" that could/should warrant an auction being cancelled? image
