I feel better now. I was getting irritated about one I have in that arrived on the 8th - along with two others that are already done and back. I'll never figure out their timetables.

Me too Russ. My shipment arrived the 9th (#341039). I looked back at all of my economy invoices going back to last year, and the most one took was 20 days. This is from clevegreg's post a few days ago -

I've PM'd him to ask what level of service he choose. Until I read your post, I was wondering if I was being slighted.

I've had an invoice that I handed to them at the ANA and they show as received in Newport on 8/6 and they don't even have the coins listed yet.

Me too, they have been stuck in grading for about 2 weeks now. But I was told

    << <i>That's why it's called economy! >>

If you want the cheap grading you have to wait the time. You want a wait, try ANACS economy service, over 2 months!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Reading this post I had to call, I had an order received 8/2/02 and it's still in grading, where it has been for a couple of weeks now.imageimage

i've had mixed results as far as time is concerned. one submission took about 24 days on the economy while all others have been 2-3 weeks. looking back, there was no reason for me to need any of them back anytime sooner than they arrived. just anxious i guess. if there's a reason for a quick turn around the best thing to do is pony up the extra cost for the service.

are you guys in a hurry to get the coins back for any particular reason??

That's like asking why a steak lover stranded on an island of vegetarians for a year would be in a hurry to get to Sizzler when he got rescued.

we don't have Sizzler here yet. time moves slow on the north coast!!!!!!! my strategy for a quick turn around is linked to an overgraded morgan, but we won't get into that.

i'm not a lot different than anyone else, i tend to want stuff done yesterday, also. my point of view is just a reflection of all the posting having to do with sneezing, fingerprints, under/over grading and all the others. i think the reality is that it can't be both ways-----rocket turn around times with error free results. i'd take a bit slower return of my coins if they were done with more care and attention and if i needed to have it both ways i would pay the extra fee. so far i haven't chosen to do the latter. i can't think of any reason to pay for a one day grade unless the coin is raw with a return policy or valuable enough to warrant the grading such as in a crossover from an auction or something. the same with other increase fee quick times. then again, i'm retro-minded so slowness doesn't bug me enough to pay for speed.

  • i guess if they got mine on the 14th and 22nd i'm way out there yet. last month economy only took 8 days. I thought mine may be taking longer because i left them in the mint plastic cases this time. Sort of like punishment for doing that. guess not.
  • My last submission took 10 days, this one has been 3 weeks already. Maybe their taking their time and tryin to do it right for a change. Or is that just wishfull thinking image

    Note to PCGS customer service-

When a customer calls asking about an order, which is a better answer?

    1. "Gee Mr. ...., economy seems to be taking the full 30 days right now."

    2. "Well you sent it economy."

  • I did see that!

I apologize for that answer. You can be sure that I will take care of it.

Please PM me if you know the name of the rep.

I have looked at all of the submission numbers that have been posted here. I do see some movement on all of them with in the last two days. I will keep an eye on them.

According to the PCGS people, they are working on showing where your order is on the web site. If it is in grading it will thell you when it got there, when it moves to sealing (fingerprinting), and so on. I think that is a great idea, then I would know without calling that my order is still in grading...image

    Charlie,

Thank you for responding. The young lady who spoke with me on the 28th about my invoice said "You did send it economy!" also. It shouldn't bother me at all, because she's right, but it did make me feel like I shouldn't have called.

In my opinion economy is a maximum of 30 business days. Even at $10/$15 a coin it adds up. I am a CUSTOMER and should be treated as such. Usually the people at customer service are great, but when the graders get behind and we all start calling, they tend to get a bit testy!!!image

  • Here is what I would like to see PCGS do that would improve the "apparent speed" of a submission, even if it weren't any faster.

They are tracking all of the coins currently being graded, correct? Why not then have a status that changes more often. For example, they should be able to on their website list at least approx the number of days till the coins will hit the grading room (maybe even count down the orders in front of your order), update when the coins are actually being graded, update when the coins are being slabbed, etc. There should be no reason your coins should sit around that they can't explain why they are sitting around. They just have to get their website to work with their internal systems and submissions would appear to be faster, because there would be more status information. This is often done for example when loading software or something else that people don't like waiting for. Some graphics or sounds are loaded ahead to make the overall load appear shorter.

  • I have no idea what goes on in the backroom at PCGS but relating to my workplace there is this "Murphey's Law" thing that goes on.....as soon as you have a full crew the work coming in slows. As soon as we get 2 or 3 on vacation, plus the ones that use up all their vacation and start using sick leave, we get bombed with work and need every bit of our guarenteed 2 week delivery time.

    Just a thought...

BTW.. there is no excuse for bad customer service and it sounds like Charlie feels the same...thanks

It is just amazing the level of customer service now. First, the whole change in policy for the free submissions. The numerous and very attentive emails received from BJ. And now, Mr. Kahler, personally checking on our coins -- (my invoice #'s 3082539 & 3045825). This is without a doubt, TOP NOTCH, customer service!image

(Ya' think that was enough to get me those PR69 DCAMs?)image

Anyway, thanks to PCGS for looking into this and actually responding to our concerns.

    Michael

I understand about economy taking more time, but service to the customer should never be second rate. The few times I have called the service has been always first rate.

Now if I could only get some GOOD grades on the coins that are there now, I would be very very happy!imageimageimage

My lastest, submitted by my dealer, for crossover was recieved on 8/9/02 and shipped back on 8/28/02.
  • My order is still at PCGS and tomorrow (Sept 5th) is the 30th business day by my calculation and according to customer service mearly the 29th business day. Either way its been at PCGS for a total of 42 days. Still has 2 steps to go and it has not even gone in the mail yet. This is perfect I leave on vacation on Friday for 10 days as well. It may literally be Fall when I actually get my coins back that I sent in July.

In my opinion economy is a maximum of 30 business days.

image I bet you don't remember the good old days when there was no economy and the regular submissions took 3-4 MONTHS. image
  • My first two orders I sent in had a very quick turnaround, unfortunately....
    ...(This line purposely left blank)...
... and now I'm just waiting on the status.

My invoice dated 08/08 just posted yesterday. It was economy(26 days). I appreciate the effort Charlie if you helped. I asked for economy - an estimated 30 days, and even though I'm always in a hurry, PCGS did what they said. Thank you.

My NGC submission just took 8 days (which covered the 3-day weekend). image
  • TomBTomB Posts: 21,200 ✭✭✭✭✭
My NCS/NGC couple submission just took 19 days and that included Registered Mail both ways from New England to FL.

My PCGS submission, however, was submitted on 8/1 at the ANA and was in CA and recorded as received on 8/6 and still has not been updated even though others, who had their coins received later, have already received their grades.

By the way, these were the same submission tiers that I chose.

I submitted a batch of coins to NGC a couple of weeks ago and it's not even showing up on their website yet. Maybe a phone call is in order. I wasn't so much concerned until I read Greg's turnaround time.

(Unless NGC figured out who I am... Naw...... couldn't be)

braddick, I used the EarlyBird (regular) service level. BTW, your Ike was listed as being completed after about 3 days there!!! image

Maybe mine were faster because they were crossovers?

    6 coins. 4 "crossed".

2 PCGS crossed at the same grade.
1 ICG crossed at 1 grade lower. A rainbow toned GWC.
1 SEGS crossed at 1 grade lower. ANACS said 65 LONG ago, but the coin was hazy. Cracked and dipped it and SEGS said 67. NGC said 66.
2 SEGS failed to cross at any grade. The web site doesn't say why but it was because of AT.

braddick-I just sent some coins to NGC on August 28th and they just appeared as being recieved today. I was getting a little worried about them being lost by the USPS. I had an express and economy submission that was recieved by NGC on the 19th of August. The express submission was back to me in about a week and I am still waiting on the economy submission. mike

My economy round trip NCS/NGC took 14 days, mailbox to mailbox. Stellar! (PS - I agreed with the grades) image
