1893 PCGS PR67CAM $.25

You guys will probably get really tired of hearing me howl about how beautiful and rare older cameo proofs are. In fact it is beginning to sound like a broken record in my own head!

This 1893 has froooosty devices on the obverse but did not get a DCAM because the cameo contrast on the reverse is too soft.

The 1892 to 1898 coins in the Barber series for all demoninations tend to have better, frostier devices from well prepared dies. The mint in the following years began to experiment with proof die preparation with disasterous results. for most proofs in the Barber series minted in the 1900's the devices tend to look "watery". DCAMS for any denomination in the Barber series post-1900 are EXTREEMELY RARE!

hi there mike! oh i am not tried looking at great coins like that barber!

WOW that barber proof67!! 1893 is a very close deep cameo coin from the scan
it looks deep cameo to me!

any deep cameo is rare and with the quarters any after 1899 are extremely excessively rare!!!!!!!!!

i have seen coins in deep cameo holders that were not as frosted as your 1893!!

a swett and very rare coin much morso with the superb gem grade!

    sincerely michael

Beautiful coin, I'm getting ready to start collecting these. Was going to do silver commems, but these are calling me.

I already know I probably can't afford proofs. And thought of ms halves. But probably be quarters.

BTW, And you just had to post this didn't you.image

    thanks stman

Why did PCGS not attribute cameo designation. It appears to be a cameo proof Barber.
    Man,they,re tough on the cameos.image
  • This scan was taken before being resubmitted. The coin is a solid CAM and boderline DCAM. The new holder says CAM.

I was getting ready to ask same thing. Why it didn't say cam on holder. Reverse is a little softer on the cam as you said.

So does holder say cam now?

    thanks stman

  • It is the old holder the coin is now designated CAM.

Well no matter what the holder says it's a very nice piece.

Funny it can go from no cam, then cam and probably is dcam.
