Massachusetts 2000P State Quarter

Has anyone seen a double hit on these coins?I found one(I think????) then again I may be seeing double.I see a problem with the "In God We Trust". The O-I-E-G and T all have signs of being doubled. The most prominent one is the O.On the inside right you can see half of the loop and on the outside left you can see the other half.I am looking at the G right now and that also looks the same way as the O.All the rest of the letters are not as prominent as the G and the O. Do you think I'm seeing double or Am I really seeing double? If I can get a good picture of it I'll try to send it to someone on the forum.I still can't figure out how to scan it on this forum.

  • I think coinworld does a feature on discoveries, and i also think there's one type of doubling that doesn't happen anymore because of the way coins are made. maybe this bump will help

  • BlueCole: I just came back from my local coin dealer. He looked at the Quarter and he was amazed at what he seened. He said the whole "In God We Trust" is doubled. Some letters more than others. The only thing he could not figure out was why the P was not doubled.I got this coin in change last night. He also said I should send it out to have it authenticated. How and where should I send it?

It sounds like you may have machine doubling, which carries no premium. It sounds too inconsistent to be a doubled die. If there is a flatness (shelflike, or stair steps) to the doubling it's machine doubling. With the advent of the "single squeeze" hubbing process, doubled dies are now virtually eliminated.
  • Richbeat;;You are right about the coin.I did some research on it.I guess the proper term is "hub doubling".The doubling is also on reverse "The Bay State"but not as prominent.Thank you all for the feed back.I might put this one on E-Bay and see what happens.

That sounds like a good idea. You never know what will happen on ebay. Good luck! image
