According to my new Walter Breen book on these coins the S 76b is 1795 large cent with a plain edge. It is a R 1 coin and is the most common of all Liberty Caps. There are 9 die states. Tey were struck in Dec 27th thru 31st of 1795 and delivered Jan 1 1796. A good handful of mint state coins exist.
S-76b Obverse: Tip of 5 pierces bust (on S-73 the 5 iswell away from bust, on S-78 the 5 is close but not touching, S-74 & 75 the entire top of thr 5 is enbedded in the bust. S-77 has same obverse) Reverse: ONE CENT high in wreath. (it is completely above the lower two inner leaf clusters. The inner leaves are almost vertical and it almost looks like the two leaves are holding up the denomination.) On the S-77 ONE CENT is well centered in the wreath and the two words are almost a letters height apart. Edge: plain S-76a has a lettered edge. There are some S-76b coins struck on unlettered thick planchets intended for S-76a These are very expensive
