Rare branch mint proof up for sale Goldberg pre-long beach

imageimage

This is the famous Amon Carter Branch mint proof up for sale in the Goldberg pre-Long Beach sale, picture taken from their web site.Link Reported mintage is a dozen pieces and this one looks like it was toned in a Wayte Raymond Holder. Thought it might be a nice coin to post. Anyone here seen one of his coins in person or another 93CC proof?

Edited to correct the date.

Don't you mean 1893-CC proof instead of 1889-CC? Wayne Miller has a write up on these coins in his book, and has a real nice large ( I mean real large) photo of his coin on the wall of his shop. He claims the Amon Carter coin has extensive hairlines on the obverse. Still looks like a neat coin to me.

I haven't seen one in years...probably circa 1993/4. One I do remember seeing was a branch mint proof from New Orleans...I think. I don't remember seeing any CCs at the time although there might have been some also. Aren't there branch mint proofs from N.O? I dunno...I'm not an expert in Morgans.

1879-O (first year), 1883-O are listed in Waynes book (and in the PCGS pops). Some believe that there are some 1885-O's, but none have been certified. ( I know a dealer who paid very big money for a 1885-O DMPL hoping to get it in a BM holder, sold for a huge loss to Mike Casper).
