any reason why Teletrade auctions run until freaking 10:05pm ?!?!?!?

Why cant teletrade end their auctiones at 10pm like the rules say? It cost me a coin i wanted really freaking badly.

Maybe i can complain.

I've noticed that happen sometimes. Their site also almost comes to a dead stop toward the end. Pretty frustrating when I'm trying to snipe a coin.

I just kept on the phone line until 7:05 until it cut me off. I was watching two coins (PCGS VG08 20Cent!) and didn't want to loose them either. What I do is get back on at 6:58 or so and just keep jumping around to different lots, making sure to check on YOUR lots every once in awhile. If the prompt states, "...your bid" you know you're still in the running as top bidder for the coin.
I check the website fifteen minutes later and there are the results.
(You can pay on their secure website too, saves on having to mail them a check.)

This is something I've been wondering about with them. If you go to account info you can find out very quickly if you won a coin, but tracking usually says "pending" for over an hour.

  • umm yeah... I was the top bidder until 10:03pm, and was outbid at 10:05pm

    thats annoying.

Ah, yes, I remember the pain. I bid at 9:59, it was flashing 'your bid' as the clock struck 10:00, showed pending for the next hour, went to bed trying to figure how I was going to pay for it , woke up, checked my credit card balances, logged in to my account and BAM!! I had been outbid after 10:00. I actually think it is some kind of anti-sniping device to allow the high bidder one more chance after the auction ends. I could be wrong.

It might just simply be that the bidding towards the end over loads their system and capability to close it at 10 sharp.

    Mike,

I think you're right on the money. Judging by how sluggish their server is at the end, I'd say it's strained to it's limits.

The VERY LAST bid that counts is the maximum bid placed well before the auction ends.
For example, four hours before ending I place a maximum bid of $100.00 on a coin. The lot ends at 7:05 (Calif. time) and the 'last' bid was say $65.00. After all bids are recorded it checks for those max. bids and in my case will bump it up one notch- awarding me the coin at the next increment above $65.00.

My worry is when I forget to place that max. bid and then an hour before the auction ends I try too and then remember you can't!
