Some of the toned Morgans are not in color, and with my luck 2 without color were ones I really wanted to take a peek at.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

Dale: We ought to set a time to go up and view the coins. Same with Bowers "Rarities" sale.

All the Franklin fans should look at the 58-D in the Goldberg sale....

    JOM,

I saw that 58-D Franklin. Do you think it looks that nice in person?

From what I've seen of the Morgans, the Goldberg scans are a tab bit enhanced. Anyone else agree?

Did anyone notice that they are auctioning ACG coins, but they are downgrading them and explaining the coins' problems?

Check out the 1853 Large Cent, ACG MS-66 R/B

Thanks for the head up on this; didn't see anything that interests me, though.

    Morganluver,

It's just you.....but besides....there's nothing there that you'd be interested in so why waste your time? Read a good book or something like that. image

No. They do say if you are having problems you may have pop-ups blocked. Do you have the current version of IE or Netscape?

Lot #125 is listed as "1853, N-13, R-1. Del Bland graded MS-66 Red."

    Who/what exactly is Del Bland.

Del Bland is a famous Large Cent person. (well in some circles). First time I read his name I thought the same thing.

  • Up to now Goldberg estimates have always been conservative creating more interest in my opinion. I just scanned the Morgans and the estimates on some of the toned coins are high to very, very high. Looks as if they have decided to move away from the tried and true method and now are attempting the "take a shot" method.
  • gmarguligmarguli Posts: 2,225 ✭✭
I think their estimates are mixed. Some of the coins have insanely low estimates (I'll pay those estimates right now). Others are fully valued. They should just pick a standard and stick to it.

    AJ,

If you haven't seen these coins firsthand, then you may be surprised to find that in some cases these prices are not too high. Some of these coins will bring big bucks. They're all there.

Gsaguy: Turns out I may actually seen that coin (58-S Frank) before. Yes, it is a nice one. BTW, lose that red-X will ya. Geez....

  • Maybe $1500-$2000 estimates on common MS65 Morgans will turn out to be as conservative as they've been is the past. I like toned coins put will never get use to $3k common Morgans no matter how nice.

I was surprised at some of the estimates too. In particular, three half dimes that were in the June sale reappear here. 2 of them have estimates double what they brought (bought back?) in the June LB sale. The 1841-0 half dime from the June sale has been upgraded from NGC66 to NGC67. It was a nice coin too and brought well over 66 money. Not really sure why it's back again other than to see if the extra point can earn someone some extra cash. This one seemed like a put away coin as the finest known.

It will be very interesting to see what all the "the toned coin market is about to crash" people have to say after the prices realized on some of those amazing toned Morgan dollars is released.
