Why do ebay sellers do this?

Auction

Do you throw your listing up quick so you can get in on the rotation at a time you like? If so, why not just get everything ready in advance.

I'm tempted to bid on all his like auctions real quickly since once there's a bid you can't change anything. Or am I just being malicious here? image

  • I usually have all my stuff ready by the time I put them up. But hey, for $6, I'm even tempted to bid!

Okay you Wussesimage, I bid just to freeze it up like Tonelover said. Now let's see if it really IS a SLQ.

    Theemail I received when I asked for a photo/scan

I appreciate your interest, but I don't want any bids yet, please. Once a bid is placed, it ruins my ability to revise my auction. You are bidding on nothing yet. I just listed it to save a place for closing Sunday Night, and need to finish it before the weekend. The damage is done, but please don't bid on any more yet. Thank You ! ~Case

Tonelover - Now we know why eBay sellers do this.....

So, if I retract a bid, doesn't this go against me as far as eBay is concerned?

The seller can cancel your bid.

If you retract it will register in your feedback.

    CM,

It will show as a retraction on your feedback summary page. If you accumulate enough bid retractions, theoretically eBay could take some disciplinary action against you. It is not known how many bid retractions would trigger a response from eBay, but it would be quite a few.

The best thing to do is request of the seller to cancel your bid. In doing that, the cancellation will not count against you in any way and will not show up on your feedback summary page. No harm, no foul. In this case, I think the seller would be glad to cancel your bid, and might actually do that anyway when they get ready to actually complete the auction description.

I must say that their practice of putting an auction up just to secure the closing time and date is a poor one. There are programs out there that allow a seller to prepare their auctions in advance and list them at a prearranged time.
