Is There A Negative Kobe Bryant Bias Among NBA fans???

It's been a long time since I've came out with a nice little thread about Kobe...so it's about that time again.
Remember the all-star game when Kobe got bood? Watching that was a sad moment for Kobe Bryant and the city of Philadelphia as he was having one of his most memorable games on one of the biggest stages. Bryant admitted that it mad him sad to have his hometown fans booing him because he was doing so well. I’ve noticed fans all over seem to bash Kobe and I find one explanation for this. I call this the Michael Jordan affect and Jordan has nothing personally to do with it...We all know that there has always been talk about who among the young players is the heir apparent to Michael Jordan. People looked at Vince Carter as a candidate because of his spectacular dunking. Allen Iverson is an energizer bunny that keeps on going but his bad boy image didn’t flow with Jordan’s image and he’s a lot smaller so it’s a different comparison. Tracy McGrady is the unsung hero whom’s simply one of the most spectacular players who brings an all-around game that takes a backseat to no one. He just hasn’t made it deep enough into the playoffs for everyone to take complete notice of him. Charles Barkley rides his bandwagon all the time and I totally agree. Kobe Bryant is the closest thing to Michael Jordan that you can possibly expect to see in every way and that seems to be the biggest contradiction among fans.
Kobe Bryant clearly seems to have patterned his game and self after Jordan and that seems to be the biggest complaint of fans. Everyone speaks of who’s the next Jordan and then gets mad when someone acts and plays like Jordan. Kobe takes the ball to the basket like Jordan did off of the dribble and all. Kobe isn’t afraid to play defense and will gamble for steals like Jordan. Kobe improved his outside and short game like Jordan and now has three rings so no one can use the old he’s good but until he wins a ring argument against him. Kobe speaks in the same manner as Jordan in that he’s deliberate and very well spoken. I didn’t say like Jordan because Kobe is cultured and well traveled. He speaks fluent Italian and sometimes when a black male is well spoken people want to knock him for that too because he’s not street enough like Iverson. Bryant’s image actually is cleaner than Michael Jordan’s right now and so I guess people figure it must be too good to be true. He even wags the tongue like Jordan when going to the basket for a dunk.
Kobe’s game is as dynamic as anyone in the league. I say the best all-around player tag goes to Kobe without question. Shaquille O’Neal is head and shoulders the most dominant player in the NBA, so I would think one of the most exciting players would get a level of respect for his talent rather than criticism for his appearing to challenge Michael Jordan’s legacy as the greatest player. Bryant never has said he’d like to be better than Jordan that’s fans who treat him like he said it or thinks it.
His confidence and strong mind are one of the reasons Kobe did so well during the all-star game and won the MVP. Don’t hold that against him because any good player has to be confident and not back down to anyone else. I’ve heard a lot of slams on Kobe and they all seem to be personal rather than facts that make sense. Take notice of the way Kevin Garnett played against Michael Jordan in the all-star game. The announcers mentioned quite a few times how they were going at it. Garnett said I don’t care who it is I am playing against once they get on the court we’re in a fight. Kobe plays hard and has earned his place as one of the best players in the league. He doesn’t do anything that any other player does in the NBA except the fact that he looks good doing it and makes it look easy. He also looks like Michael Jordan doing it and that seems to get people upset. Add to the fact that Jordan and Bryant haven’t met since Jordan retired and I think people are nervous what the results will be when they meet.

These kids just have nothing better to do than bash on a player who they wish was on there team.
<< <i>do people acually read those long ass posts? >>
It's sure as hell better than your threads about how angry you are. Why don't you go take some anger management classes or go talk to Mommy and Daddy and ask them for some help.
Undertaker, it's been a while...so shush!

Let's look at Kobe w/o Shaq, MORE THAN LIKELY the following would happen... his scoring would go up, assits down, field goal percentage down, rebounds is a toss up. I sincerly doubt he would win rings. Jordan played w/ a top player however it's hard to argue Pippen is on or near the same level as Shaq at this stage. I don't think it's fair to comare until their careers are over.
With no other SUPERSTAR McGrady has done what Kobe has statisticaly (and w/ a Shaq/Duncan) I expect T-Mac to make that next step WINNING IN THE PLAYOFFS!
Kobe is a top 3 player in the league... whether it be 1,2,3 I'm not sure, but I think that is good enough.
Many Refs, just ask.
Kobe has had one of those 4th quarters that made me think of Michael Jordan in his days with the Chicago Bulls. Against the Spurs Kobe was 7-22 and having to work for every point he got through the first 3 quarters and to go with it only had made 1-5 free throws that looked like may have cost the Lakers the game. Suddenly Kobe woke up and hit 2 3-point shots from up top and the Lakers were back in the game after being down by 10 with a little more than 4 minutes to go and no hope in sight. He stayed aggressive after Fisher missed a shot and got the tough rebound and maneuvered his body to avoid the big guys and laid it in for the winning bucket. The NBA is an interesting game as one team can look unstoppable for all the game and suddenly no one has the nerve to shoot the ball and help his team in a tight game with only a couple of minutes left. San Antonio is that type of team as Tim Duncan is the only player willing to shoot for them, but the Lakers know that too and clamp down hard on him trying to make anyone else but Duncan beat them. San Antonio averaged 17.3 points in the 4th quarter the first 3 games and Bryant outscored the team in the 4th quarter. That was an awesome game...
Kobe(so far) has been luckier than Jordan in his short career, with all of the playoff experience and Finals victories. Who knows what will happen to Kobe after Shaq decides to hang em up. Will he be able to carry the Lakers without a dominate big man playing in the post? I don't know and nobody does. I don't think he is the best player in the NBA right now, I think that Shaq takes that title with Tim Duncan as second best player in the NBA. All that can change quickly though, it really depends on how long Shaq is out in the beginning of the season, and how well Kobe steps up to that challenge. Like I said, I don't like Kobe, but he does have some ill moves to the basket and can score from virtually anywhere on the court.
I think the main reason fans boo Kobe is he takes credit for something that he didn't entirely on his own. Now, if Kobe had been awarded atleast 1 of the 3 Finals MVP awards, then I don't think he would've been bood as much. Ignorant fans who don't know about the game boo players, like alot of stupid NY fans did with Giambi earlier this season. But back to the MVP awards, O'neal earned all 3 of them, he deserves the spotlight but he won't get it because Kobe plays the flashy #2 spot with Shaq working for boards.
Thats my opinion, anyway.
Hill has played very few games in a Magic jersey, I don't know the exact #, but I know it's very low b/c of his 2 ankle surgeries. Thats not a good comparison, knowing how unoften Hill's in the lineup.
<< <i>actually mcgrady does not do what kobe does. Mcgrady averages 22 points per game with grant hill in the lineup lilsun. Mcgrady is the #1 option in the eastern confrence. If mcgrady gets outplayed by baron davis and the hornets then what would kobe do to him? Your useless stats means nothing when kobe plays with a monster and mcgrady is the only person on his team when ghill is out. Also heres something to think about......... if mcgrady couldn't handle being in vince carters shadow in toronto then how the heck could he handle always being behind #34? You have nothing! >>
Welcome back ebok, etc! McGrady averages 22 a game w/ Ghill in the line up, so that's what 9 games? Baron Davis came to play in the playoffs and McGrady was the ONLY scoring option for Orlando, hence the double teams. To say that he is #1 option in the East is true, which is why he catches double and triple teams. If McGrady could play with Shaq we'd know how he responded there's a different to riding the bench in Toronto and losing, where he'd be starting and winning in LA. When teams beat LA, who do they try and take away, SHAQ! Also Bibby played Kobe well, prolly better than Baron played T-Mac...
I think there is a major bias against Kobe. All the old school NBA fans like myself HATE the new NBA. Today's typical NBA player is a self-centered, egotistical brat. Many of them seem to have 2 mentalities:
1. I-Hope-My-Dunk-Makes-Sportcenter-Highlights-Tonight
2. I Can't wait to dunk on someone else and scream in a show boating, cromagnon manner.
Sportscenter and all highlight reels are partially to blame for these 2 mentalities.
Kobe epitomizes all of this. Kobe is arrogant and still very self centered. His fans typically are immature kids who have no right thinking he's even in the same ballpark as Jordan. He may be smart but he's an idiot if he thinks he has a right to shoot more shots per game then Shaq. Shaq shoots FG's at 55% a game and Kobe 42%. It does't take a genius to see who needs to shoot the ball more, but for some reason every year Kobe feels he's more important then the most dominant player in the NBA.
He's also on a winning team and with a winning team comes bandwagon fans. In my eyes and many many people's eyes the Lakers are now the Yankees of Basketball. You either love the Yankees or you hate them.
I could get into this more but it's late and this topic is beyond beaten to death.

I agree with UofA in that all these players ever worry about anymore is will I be on Sportscenter & how much is the new shoe contract going to pay me.
Bring back Kareem,Magic,Larry,MJ & the rest of the best of this sport!
One can only hope that Stern, the owners & players wake up & realize what they are doing to this great game. Not even the new TV contract with ABC/ESPN can save this garbage.Thank the Lord for college basketball! At least the NBA hasn't ruined the college game yet altho they are trying to with them allowing children into the league because they need anyone & anything to save them & they know it.
Now I know a bunch of you are going to get upset with me about my views on this subject.Well,go right ahead & slam me;but most of you weren't even alive to see the NBA the way it used to be.For those of you who can, take some time & watch ESPN Classics when they show the older NBA footage of games & playoffs. You'll be amazed at the difference of the way the game used to be played.

<< <i>Get a life Derrick. I seriously wish i had the time on my hands to write a 3-page essay about an UNPROVABLE point. Seriously dude, you'll NEVER win this argument, so get a girlfriend or a job or something. It is such BS that you come out and state "Kobe is the best player in the NBA", when that is in fact a point that CANNOT be proved, so why do you incessantly try?? BTW.... Steve Francis was the ONLY player on the NBA to average 20-6-6 last year, and that was WITHOUT the most dominant player in the NBA on his team

Just because I post a thread about Kobe doesn't mean you have to bash someone. That someone being me. Look at some of the nice articles that has been written and just because they wrote that...does that mean they don't have a life? I think not. I have a life. I wake up at 5:15 AM and go to work each morning...don't post bullsh*t when you don't know me and what I do. Sure, I have a high post total...so? I post on the Open Forum as well...who cares? I'm sure if anyone did the same, they're post total would be just as high and I could less if there was a such thing as a post total...I don't lose or gain sleep over what it is, or what it isn't.
But back to the point...you're right...it CAN'T be proved but when you have guys like Shaq, Phil Jackson, Charles Barkley, Dr. Jack Ramsey, and even MICHAEL JORDAN himself says that Kobe Bryant is the best over-all player in the game today. Your right...it doesn't prove anything, but that's a lot of history of greatness with those names mentioned...so, I'm sure they don't just say that for the hell of it. Think about it.
Steve Francis is all the Rockets have. What do you expect? Of course he's going to be dominant...esp. with a team that's NOT dominant...think about it.
