Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

why is it that...

people give you links to their tradelist... and they always have a section called "personal collection" on it.. and when they hit you up for a high end card.. they want you to pick 4 or 5 cards from their other lists.. and the second you mention a card on their "personal list" that actually turns out to be a 1 for 1 even bv deal... they get offended???? Wouldnt all of my cards technically be part of my "personal collection" since I am not a business owner, nor do I collect to make money?? Why not actually get a seperate web page to showcase your prized cards.. there are more than enough free servers out there awaiting your scans??

  • We'll Frank,

Well put. I used to be like that, now, if it is something I really want, take whatever you need for it.......image. Of mine, most anything is tradable, besides for kmart, from my legacy auto replica jersey, to my topps tipoff rc, none of his stuff is for trade.......image

But I do agree with you 100%
  • Very interested in your PSA 9 Finest Garnett RC. You don't happen to have a Garnett Santa Suit do you? PLMK Andrew

um, well basically, my collections arent for cheap trade...if you want something out of them, it has be be a good high end item that i can replace it with...my tradelist is junk that i can just toss around, cause its not very valueable, nor do i have any attachments to it...even if it was a jeter jersey, but it only booked 50, i wouldnt have a problem dealing it....but my $250 jeter spx winning materials? youve got to be kidding image

I see what ya mean ski... but......... if someone is interested in my 120 dollar gu'd jersey card of an NBA superstar.... doesnt it only make sense that I am not going to take on 4 30 dollar cards in return.. nor would I take on a rare higher valued card of a lesser player??

basically.. you dont trade a 50 dollar MJ for a 50 dollar Marcus Fizer... am I off base here???
  • Theres no "rules" to trading. I would trade a $50 game-used in a second for webber commons equally $50. Its what each person needs. Just my 2 cents.

  • You want some Webbers for game used? I've got tons of Webber commons, rookie cards, inserts, etc. For example I have some sort of see through game film card from UD3, an oversized chrome Superheroes RC, 2 UD Silver Rookie Exchange set RCs, 02 Focus Jersey Edition Trading Places, etc. PLMK Andrew
  • pacmanssportscards, take a look at my site below in my sig and my Webber wantlist is there. The ones that are in WHITE are the one's I need.

    Let me know
    BG
  • Frank, here's what I hate even worse, when someone posts their list for you or PM's you their list, you ask for a card, and then they say "Oh thats not for trade." A$$holes!
  • bear in the big blue house man, I would be interested in any of these: Odom auto, MoPete warm-up, Tinsley/Miller jersey. I'll make a list of the Webbers tonight. PLMK Andrew
  • Im ok with what your interested in....as long as you have Webbers I need. Please PM me the list...thanks.

Well, I have a list of my Wings cards that are listed as not for trade on my list, but have them there only because I will trade them for a Wings card I like better... And I will trade my $100 card for 3 cards equaling $100. Just did it with Bob and CJ (Bobstar). He wanted the card and I didn't and I liked his cards, so it was a fair trade for both of us.
    image
  • We agree with dirt on this one.Recently,CJ & I decided to dump GU & Autos of players we didn't like or collect for low #ed inserts or special cards of players we do collect.
It's whatever floats your boat.We do agree with uwftke26 tho on when they send you a list & then say its not for trade. That is a total nimrod thing to do.

I hear ya Ryan... the only thing that steams me more is.. I am holding it till it books... and then they trade it away to someone else?? what the heck is that???? if you dont wanna trade with me.. and prefer to trade with someone else.. why ya hittin me up in the first place??
  • Frank

I totally agree with you. When i first got on to on line trading i noticed this little qwirk and went "what the f#ck?" "Arnt all cards in my personal collection since they are all mine personally?"

I list all my cards since i never know what somebody will offer me-nothing is untouchable. Someday someone might offer me my dream card and if i have a hidden collection or a "personal collection" marked NOT FOR TRADE they might not make me an offer.

As it is im in a trade now on an MJ jersey card out of 82 that the seller said was NEVER for trade until he saw what i could offer.

Also-People ask me if im interested in a card i always say "MAYBE" cause i have learned they go straight for my kobe game used auto or Carter game used autos no matter what, even if the card is a Walker auto at $20.00.

I dot mind trading and sometimes i trade just to trade and even give the other guy a good deal if i like him and dont value the card much ( see mvp_mcgrady ) but when the person comes back to the well over and over it starts to grate on me.

I finally had to stop ALL IMs because people would see my site and IM me all day wanting to trade-which is nice but i would get IM on top of IM on top on IM and no real trade -just a 01-02 game used for my kobe autos-sure thing

    Tuneman..

I feel your pain brother... when I open negotiations for a 25 dollar card... 9 times out of 10 I get .. "well I really like your Kobe auto, carter auto and your collection of psa 10's"... UGH!
  • Amen brother, I get that all the time, I get offers all the time from people where I wouldn't accept every card on thier site for the card they want. A little common sense people.

"Hey, I like your 5 color Randy Moss patch, I can give you 2 Francis floors and a McGrady floor for it."
  • OMG Frank that JUST happened to me. I PMed a guy asking ONLY about a $40 RC, and sent him a link to my page to see if we can work something out. He comes back saying he likes my PSA 10 Carter SP Authentic RC and my PSA 9 McGrady Chrome RC Ref..... give me a fuc#ing break

I'd challenge you to a battle of wits...... but you appear unarmed

Your feeble attempts at world peace
    Give me a %#@*ing break
    Need worldwide genocide, planetary suicide
And when the whole damn world is dead
    there's your %#@*ing peace"

It's all in what people are used to. I do much of my trading on Beckett. Many of you here know how people
can act there. If I want someones Wings card, I tell them that the ones listed on my page are available to them as well. Most of my trading is setting myself up to get more Wings cards. It's easier to trade hockey for hockey, so generally I trade anything from my page for Hockey I can use. I've also been trying to get some
Harrington cards, so I'll trade anything on my page for them.

As for everything else, I don't really like basketball and baseball. I may even give great deals if someone would just take them. By the same measure, I recently traded my Bennett FB Jersey ($40) to a guy for an
MJ Final Floor card ($100) because....well, it's Jordan.

    Jerik..

a 40 dollar rookie card seems like a fair starting point on the carter psa 10 to me LOL

    Ryan..

dont forget that mcgrady floor is also a pat garrity floor when you think about it.. image just to put things in perspective..

    Dirtmonkey..

I guess its all about respect in some aspects.. if you go to my page and zoom in on the most valuable thing I have listed... why wouldnt they expect me to do the same?
  • Frank,

I don't see anything wrong with indicating that you have interest in cards off somebody's tradelist that are of higher value than the one they are asking about. They approached me so I am assuming that they have a strong interest in the card I am offering. That doesn't mean that I expect to trade a low value card for a high value card.....it's just an indicator to the person that maybe they could take another look at my list and find something else to add to the deal. Usually, I will say something like "hey I really like your XXXX card that books $100 and I know that my XXX card that you want only books $50....take a look at my list and let me know if you think we can work something out."

I think that is a perfectly fair, acceptable approach to trading.

I completely agree with that aspect. If I come to you with a trade, I should either delete the stuff I don't want to include in the trade first or make it available. Nobody collects hockey here, so I haven't had anybody ask about mine. What pisses me off are all of these little trading rules people adopt from someone else. I wont trade my $50 card for your two $25 cards. Or I like your $50 insert, but I'll only give you $20 trade in RC's or GU for it. Horse$hit. If you want to use book value for your rookie, the use it for my friggin insert. I avoid trading with many because they use standards for themselves, but not for others. I've had people on here (no names because it doesn't matter) say they wont take my 5 RC's for their one, but then offer me the same kind of trade a week later. And the infamous, " well it only sells on ebay for XXXX, while mine sells for twice as much." Last time I checked, this isn't ebay.

Man, people can yank my chain sumtin' fierce sometimes

But then I think...Why? I'm still havin' fun

Ken... I absolutely agree with you.. your response is polite and very respectful....but typically the responses I get are not that well worded... and the disparity between values is usually much more severe...

I myself cannot stand the ebay price matching thing.. in most cases its a simple matter to find any card that sold for a song at some point on ebay... and attempt to use it to your advantage..

  • I think if people are so impressed by how there card does on ebay, they should list it there and leave us alone image

ryan... i sometimes say that myself... and get the following response: "My Mom wont let me use her credit card number"
  • LOL exactly!!!

    *still crackin up*
  • I sometimes use the wrong words... ALL my cards are for trade (except Jumaine Jones) but if someone makes an offer and I don't like it I will sometimes say that it isn't for trade (like when people offer 2 $20 GU for a Q SPx or something) so in SOME cases it may just be the wrong wording. Also if someone sends a TRADELIST on it, why would the card not be for trade?
