Went to a show in St. Louis last weekend. Saw a 23-S in 63 PQ (last coin I need) passed thinking I could find a 64 or 65. Didn't. Came back to look at the 63 again. SOLD to someone else!!!!!!!!

Arrrrggggg

Did the same thing once at a local 60 table coin show. The purpose of getting to a show early is to get first pick'ins but decided to browse the bourse floor a little, when I got back the coin was gone. A $75 certified 1939 DD reverse XF45 Jeff. It still haunts me.

The Grass is Greener on the other side of the Fence ? NOT !! and especially true when a 23S is the object. image

My local Dealer buddy still lets me have it every time I see him for passing up a 16D that he had. Grab them when you can especially if you see them in person.

Minor Goof on your part but Luckily you guys in the Big Metro Areas have much better pickings than a guy from a town of 15,000 people. image

Hey Man whats the Deal ?? How in the Heck am I ever going to catch Jon if you are helping him out ?? image The 23S at MGS is sort of .......well let Jon tell you via PM.

One other minor thought. The 26S on the Heritage site is UGLY, Ugly, ugly. Its hard to believe PCGS even put it in a Slab. image It sort of looks like the 25D I had to return to them. image

    Jon,

Don't ya just hate it when that happens?image I've lost my share of coins by scoping out the entire show first, but I've gotten so that if I see something really nice, I grab it the first time. Sometimes I later see another coin that I like just as well, but don't have enough money left. Oh well, that's a reality of life when you're not a millionnaire. You just have to tell yourself that another opportunity will eventually come along. With a population of 113 in MS64 or better (disregarding whether FB or not), it ranks as one of the toughest Mercs, along with the '20-s and '27-S, so next time you see a decent one, you should go for it.

    Good luck.

  • The last show I went to I saw a super nice, somewhat proof like, gold dollar (see attached scan). I admired it, put it down, then walked off. I made it several tables then saw a much poorer, lower graded example. I turned on my heels and rushed back and bought the nice one. The dealer said someone else had just asked about it image

    Dennis,

The 23-S in your post was at the St. Louis show also. The 63 was a much better coin. I don't know how that MSG coin got into a 64 holder. There must be at least six hits on her face.

    Carl,

Nice $3 Gold. I'v always wanted one of those. Maybe someday.

  • Thanks for the info...I will keep looking....

  • Thanks, Jon. It is a Type 3 one dollar gold piece. The scan hides how small it is image
