God, I hate the waiting!

I really do hate the waiting for the submissions. I know I'm being impatient, but it has been a week and all I get is the received date and further processing is pending. It is my first submission, so my anticipation is that much greater. I really want to see how badly I did in my grading estimates. From some of the comments of the other more experienced members, I expect to be at least 2-3 points off, but really how hard is it to grade modern proofs?

Sorry, just had to vent to those that can understand. My S.O. doesn't really get it.

Thanks
Michael

  • 67DCAM, 68DCAM, 69DCAM (good job!), 64CAM (what were you thinking?), 69DC (but common date), 68DCAM.

    Hope that helps!

That's not funny, for a minute I thought that I was missing something!

  • Nice Ikes.

How much did it cost to assemble the coins for the set?

Ahhh - I like the your choice for ID pics. Damn, and I thought I was the only one using that one. It also appears that you beat me to it. Funny, we all have Ike pics. Sorta like a family with Supercoin, being Dad Ike.

As for my costs, can't say, my wife may read this and I'll be a former collector. But really they weren't that expensive, comparitively. The MS Ike Set is far worse. But I am always trying to upgrade. I have this fantasy about getting one of those PR70s Ikes. I also have fantasies about certain playboy playmates that are probably more realistic. But we all must dream.image

  • You can admit to a Playboy bunny fantasy, but not reveal your Ike prices? They must be expensive! image

I wouldn't fantasize too much about the PR70 Ikes until you've seen one up close. 30 of the 32 ever graded were from one bulk submission. In fact I just listed one of them on my site (in its current PR69 holder).

In one bulk submission? Was Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles the celebrity guest grader @ PCGS that week? How could 30 PR70 DCams come from that same bulk submission, of course, unless a nameless, coin dealing subsidiary of Collectors Universe was the actual submitter. That is only my speculation of course and is not meant to imply anything whatsoever. image

Any info that you have on that would be very interesting - when, who, what are going prices, would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, alright, I want the slab and not the coin. I'm sure there are 69's that are equal if not better, but I really want to move up. There, I admitted it! At lease I haven't bought any garbage slabs.

  • Your speculation is as good as mine. My research ended with ferreting out that bulk submission.

As far as prices, the last price realized I kow of -- for a pair of 72-S and 74-S PR70 coins (both from that bulk submission) -- was about $7500. I find that difficult to even type with a straight face, but it's true. image

I applaud you for admitting you're buying the plastic, at least! And, by the way, many people who ignored me and bought plastic PR70s a couple years ago have done extraordinarily well from a financial standpoint. Probably better than 99% of the coin market. So, who's looking stupid now. image

But for those more interested in the coin... check out the two 72-S proofs on my web site for a comparison.

Do like I do when I'm waiting, start plugging in numbers and see what someone else sent in an got graded.

As far as IKEs, I have no PR70DCAMs, all 69s. I did submit 9 1971 great looking IKEs a few months back, got back 8-PR69DCAMs and 1-PR68DCAM. Those tightwads could not cough up a PR70DCAM (would have been a pop1). But the coins were flawless. 5 years ago they would have made PR70DCAMs. What do you do...image

I saw the pic of the former pr70 that you have and the other 72 that you have up for sale and I just couldn't believe it. What a piece of crap the (former) pr70 looks like, I'll take your 72 over that one. Of course just comparing the internet pics isn't enough, but I can see why you went for the downgrade.

It'll be interesting to see what I get back, but I am already counting on being several points off based upon others comments. I might try NGC next just to compare the services, if I get hammered by PCGS or get an errant fingerprint or two.

Supercoin - PM me when you get in a 76 Type I PR69 DCam. Its the only one left that I need to complete the set.

Marty - I saw your PR70 SBAs up for sale, did you "make" those? Nice Coins, and a great eye, if you did!

I bought them on a whim at the Heritage ANA sale. They are really nice looking coins and I'm sure they are going to good homes. I was very surprised hpw many people asked about the blurred out cert numbers (They did could not beleave that anyone would steal a cert number). I was really surprised the prices they went for!!image
