1983 PR 68 NO S dime

I have an 1983 NO S dime gradeds PF68 by PCGS.
I am the one who pulled this from a proof set and submitted it to PCGS about 1987.
At that time, PCGS did not give give cameo or deep cameo desigination to modern proofs.
Now, it is a given that almost ALL modern proofs are DC!
Do I really need to pay $30+ and postage of $15+ to return the coin that will cost me only $10 to send because they did not give DC in 1987?
$30+$15 postage+ my cost to send the coin equals a LOT to get a DC designation for a coin that deserved it in the first place.
But, without it, the coin brings less on E Bay!
But not $45 more!
I send lots of coins to PCGS, but this is a bit much to ask after I already paid for the service.

  • Call em up & speak to Charlie. See if he will allow you to do a "cameo review". Might save a few bucks

  • Man, there is more complaining in this hobby than any other! First time I've heard someone complained about anything related to finding a No-S proof. image

You paid for a service in 1987, which PCGS provided. They now have a new modified service, which you can pay for if you want. I don't know of any other companies that sell a service for a nominal fee and will re-do it for free 15 years later.

Maybe if you're unlucky enough to find some more No-S coins you could submit them at the same time to spread your cost around? image

Find a dealer that will do it for you. It would only cost me $8.50 (plus shipping)

  • They used to have a "designation review" that was $5, but you now you have to pay full grading fee. At least that was the answer to me the last time I checked... your mileage may vary.

However, this coin is a modern, so the grading is only $10, not $30.

currently there is no designation review service like at ngc for 10 dollars you have to have the coin regraded at pcgs for the 30 dollars and then they look at the designation possibility during the grading process that is my understanding after talking with pcgs about this same subject recently about pre 1950 proofs

but on second thought i think they have a cameo review for moderns that is less like aruond 15 dollars i guess you will have to call tomorrow and ask them directly! i think if you send in send the coin in its original holder that would be best

it might seem alot but it is called for profit business and i know of for example many coins in ngc holders that are now no brainer star coins but were just gradeed before the star designation so i guess it is a never ending battle for "keeping up with the jonses" or in this case keeping up with the holder!

just like the new cameo and deep cameo service for pre 1950 coins also
i think every year something different will come up

such is the current coin game if you want to play the game it will cost you$$$$$$$$$

but as you say without the little letters/numbers on the holder ebay people will not pony up and pay the price!!!!!!!!

such is another aspect of the coin game!
be gald i am not running pcgs i would charge you 50 dollars! and if you didnot talk to me very nice well then you might not get it at all!....lol

that was a great post and good luck with your coin! it is to me a very good coin very good!

  • You can send in your single coin submission, somebody will receive your package, carefully open it, verify its contents, enter it into their invoice database, tag it for grading, professional graders will examine it, it will be carefully broken out of its current holder, a new number assigned and label printed, encapsulated in a new holder, carefully packaged for shipment, and sent Registered Insured with Delivery Confirmation at essentially their cost. And guarantee the grade of your coin indefinitely with a cash-backed regrade policy.

    For $10.00.

    C'mon!!!
