  • Yes, the prices listed are for one (1) card. It costs more depending on how quick you want to get it back. Return shipping and insurance is extra. BGS uses FedEx to ship it back to you and insurance is required. You can send the cards to them however you want but you better make sure they don't get damaged on the way there. Hope this helps. • Ahares,

I don't think it's worth grading if you are doing it for resale- September Sports Market Report (SMR), which is what people use as a guide for graded prices typically, lists that card in PSA 9 as $42. PSA 10 is $255. Have you examined the card with a 10X magnifier and measured the centering to ensure that you are going to get at least a 9 grade? Getting a Gem Mint grade is very, very difficult so don't count on it. By the time you figure in the grading fees, S&H, and insurance at around $12-15....it will be hard to make much of a profit even if it is graded Mint.

If you are grading it because you like the holder and want to preserve your card then I say go for it. I have graded hundreds of cards with both PSA and SGC so feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.

  • Ahares,

That card is not listed for Topps 71-72 which means that they probably have not graded many and it is probably not too highly priced. Here are a few other cards in that set that may be similar:

    6 7 8 9
    138 Scoring Leaders (Alcndr,Hvlck,etc.) 10 20 35 100
    139 Scoring Avg Ldrs (Alcndr,Hvlck,etc.) 10 20 35 100
    140 FG% Leaders (Alcndr,Chmbrln,etc.) 10 20 35 100
    142 Rebound Ldrs (Chmbrln,Alcndr,etc.) 10 20 35 100

    Hope this helps.

  • BGS is damn tough. On 2 occasions, I sent my very best 12 cards to be graded by them. Approx 6 came back BGS9, 12 BGS8.5, 6 BGS8. No Gem Mints at all. They seem to find 1 category to ding you on every time. It's like a crap shoot even with gem mint condition cards-- roll the dice & you might get lucky with a 9 or 9.5.

For example, I just sent BGS a Faulk 94 SP Diecut in top notch condition. This is a foil front & the diecut gives you extra corners to deal with. 9.5 Centering, 9 Corners, 9 Edges, 7 Surface. SEVEN?! It's a foil front so it looks unusual anyway but I can't find any actual flaws on the surface at all. So this gets a total grade of BGS8. As you can see, they don't use an average either. The other 3 grades bring it up but they NEVER go more than 2 notches higher than the lowest grade. In other words, you could have subgrades of 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 4 & the card will not get better than a 5.image

  • If you've never sent cards in for grading before and you think you have a 9 card then it more then likely won't grade that high. If you think it's a 9 BGS will more then likely give it and 8.5 or lower. Good luck.

  • no prob... that was from Beckett Monthly Mag. by the way
  • BGS really screws you over. Like the other guy said if you think it will be a 9 it will always be 1 grade less. PSA is a little easier but they don't sell for as much. The best cards to get graded are the metal cards like the ones out of Molten Metal. As long as they're right out of the pack and have no scratches they should grade high. I've seen tons of them on eBay that were BGS 10 Pristine. PSA is running some kind of special right now for something like a bunch of rookie cards for $6 each. Andrew
