8/25 Coin Party !! try it sometime !

Yesterday was coin Party day at Dale's house (toningintheblood).
Attendees were strat, jom, shiro, bruce scher, ken park, myself,and Dale.
We had a blast eating,drinking..looking at coins and just general chit-chat.
Great group of people,including wives and kids.

I just wanted to let people know that this is a great idea to get the locals together to exchange ideas,lies,money etc.

Would love to hear about others who have tried this type of party/BBQ to discuss out favorite hobby.

Just another good thing about this PCGS Board..meeting great people who turn into real friends.

My thanks to Dale and his wife, also.

The BBQ gave me the chance to show my wife that other coin collectors are on a similar level of weirdness as myself, thus not dnagerous when properly medicated. It also gave me the chance to see some amazing 3 cent pieces and silver dollars I normally wouldn't be allowed to touch (since most dealers don't like showing coins to someone with no interest in buying them). I couldn't look at them too long, though, as I was beginning to be tempted to start my own collection of trimes, Morgans, and Peace Dollars.

Also, it was great to have Ken Park there for his insight into the grading services.

Thanks again, Dale, I won't be eating again for about a week.

Perhaps I should add that it wasn't like a Tupperware party.

I found I was agreeing with jom so much I had to talk to others-- it was like talking to myself. Now that's scary!

Sounds like fun! I volunteer to host the next one! Of course I'm not responsible for your round-trip airfare to Brazil

Actually, I am going to host a couple of Brazilian families next month when they come to Brasília for the big coin expo the Central Bank is putting on. Both are US coin collectors also so will give them the opportunity to see my sets up close. May even show them at the expo. Dave

I went to a coin party once, but woke up the next morning behind a dumpster with a pounding head, an empty wallet, and the remains of a cracked ACG slab in my bloody hand.

That was an impressive collection of coin folks! I'm sure sorry I missed that, or at least didn't have my spy-cam on...

A FUN time was had by all! It was interesting to see all the types of coins everyone collects. Chopped to Proof 68! and everywhere in between. We even looked at Hobo Nickels and did some trading, and now Bruce Scher collects Hobo Nickels. We even talked cars, from Corvairs to Ferrari's. Security was provided by Schiro's 2 1/2 year old daughter.

Even better that we could hear a Jazz concert from a park near by. Fortunately, Dale didn't sing along as he had treatened to do earlier when someone didn't sell a toned coin to him he liked.

I'm sure this "party" would have been worth more than the price of a plane ticket but.......

"anniversary" you guys know what that means..... The price of two tickets....and not a bad "party" itself.

littlewicher: I am from New York and know others here are too....perhaps do it on a day there is a coin show in the area such as in Syracuse or Rochester or even Albany? But not in the winter!!!!
