Registry Guru's - Need help...

OK,

Can someone explain the reason Neibaur Collection is rated better than My Kennedy's ???
I mean most of the coins in his set are lower grade than mine... I saw TWO MS-63s and SIX MS-64's!!!
His weighted GPA is lower than mine by .70 !!! --> That's almost a full point !

Just curious
I see a dilema...

Whada ya think?

Rusty.

Nice set you have got there. However you must take into account the set weighting. Even though you are both lacking the same number of coins, the ones that he lacks have a lower weight, and the ones you lack have a higher weight. Check out the weighting scale and see if this makes any sense...

    I did the number thing...
I think this is wrong... It should be quality/grade of the coins rather a few "key"/"point" with a bunch of lower grade coins....

    Frank what do you think?

Well - now you're getting into the whole issue of whether the weight scale is correct. Personally I think the whole weight thing is secondary in nature. In the end the important thing is for you to feel good about the set you have and life goes on my friend - can't afford to lose too much sleep over these things! image

    I know Frank,

    It's just weird... I'm #13 and he's #11 and I think I have a better set...

all I can say is I'm looking for the "guns" to pass him! image

    HuliganRS,

I think patience is the key here. He has the key coins (higher weights) when you aquire those coins you should easly pass him. The key higher weight coins is what gets a set ranked higher as it climbs up the ranking. If you had choose to aquire the key coins first instead of the common ones you would be ranked higher right now. When the sets are complete the better set will be on top.

People need to realize if they choose to wait and get the key higher weight coins till the last their ranking in the registry will reflect it.

    Bill,

Ha ! Easy for you to say! Some of the Kennedy's are impossible to find.. Years like 65, 69D,71,72,73,81P&D,82's,83's,84's,86's,87's...
See how often these key's come up... Ex. 83 P & D can't be found in mint sets!!! Go find a decent one image see what I mean?

    HuliganRS,

I never said or meant to imply it was easy. But he has gotten some of them and that is why he is ranked higher than you right now.

I think you are putting way too much emphasis on the Regsitry. Yes, its fun competition but would it add value to your set if you were 11 or 13? Probably not. And besides even some of the coins in top seets are dogs. See my thread on the Registry posted earlier today.

Listen to WWBillman and Frank.... they know what they are talking about. You should hear what they are saying. Putting sets together are not easy. Its taking me 3+ years for a complete Washington set (1932-1998) and I am still 10 coins away. the most important thing for me is a nice set (I just sent back a low pop coin b/c I didnt like it).

Have patience and you will have a nice set. Worry about where you are going to be on the Registry and you are buying plastic.

Does Regsitering your set add value to it?

    Good luck!!

    I hear you!

Trust me, I don't buy plastic!!! Most of the coins come from forum members or other Kennedy collectors...
I'm not too worried about what number I am... I just think I have an overall superior set... This was the whole point of my thread...

The point of your thread is ... you think you have a superior set.. But what you are missing is .. that would have nothing to do with the registry and what number you are.

I dont believe your last post.. because of the following:

    1. His weighted GPA is lower than mine by .70 !!! --> That's almost a full point !

    2. You are worried about your Registry rating or you wouldnt have put the comparison attachment up. If you think you have a superior set.. the only way to kow is to see the coins.. not the grades they are.

    3. It's just weird... I'm #13 and he's #11 and I think I have a better set... You are too worried about your ranking.

Maybe its me.. but I think you missed the point and are now trying to retract your original intent
