this coin currently resides in an ngc proof 67 holder and is solid for the grade!
here is a coin you rarely ever see with this kind of colors!! this coin in proof is not the rarest or the most common but somewhere in the middle
it does have shallow mirrors as most do of this date and a slightly weak strike due to being made with leftover business strike dies
and as a side note some of these 1880's proof coins were just given one strike from the dies!!
what makes this coin amazing and rare is the superb state of preservation combined with the MONSTER COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the 1883 three cent nickel in proof usually comes an ugly blue mostly grey color with an unusual amount of black spots, with terrible eye appeal. this coin is a rare exception.....
wonderful pastel colors colors of peach teal and orange both sides really do not come out in this photograph and this coin really needs tio be seen to be apprecaited. "sight seen" it is nothing short of amazing!!
the slight fly specks on the cheek show up moreso on the photograph than when viewed in person and is one of the proofs of this coins originality
cant help the way a coin naturally tones and this is how they come!
the rainbow across the obverse is unusual and a large dealer who deals in colored coins like this sees MAYBE one coin similar to this coin every three years.
another side note is that this date is the rarest date to get as a gem or superb gem business strike with even choice examples being very rare!
so this puts additional date pressure on the proofs. before third party grading and certification in plastic slabs this coin would have been called mintstate by many collectors and dealers.
this coin has been personally viewed by me and the above are my opinions also this coin is currently in an eastern collection and is impounded as such
sincerely michael

insider secret: if you want to find something really rare in 3c-n, look for proofs w/ clashed dies.
also, there is a new book coming out in approx 3 mo. on 3c-n, by variety and (i think) die states. it'll be by far the most extensive research ever on this great series.
killer koin, dude!

if it were not for the fly specks on the cheek and in the field this coin would be an easy 68/69!!!!!!!!!! also in person the fly specks are not as well seen like in the photo!!!!! the photo magnifies them!
with toning like this and with these light fly specks this coin is a no brainer original coin and being 85% copper toned as such with these fly specks. one of many proving tell tail signs that this coin is fully original.
