Is This Coin Tough To Grade?

I thought I would try a well circulated piece on you guys. This should be easy shouldn't it?

Final Grade: ACG VG-8

Passing up a coin just because of the holder? Not me! I'm buying coins. Actually, I give it a G-6 and enjoy it just as much as F-12. I am a little curious whether or not PCGS would be so generous. I suspect they would grade it G-6. Reverses can't raise the grade, but they can lower it.

Looks VG10 or F12. Your just showing off your super nice, very scarce 1872-CC dime with very nice original toningimage

    I like it.

  • I'll go VG-8 because of the well-worn reverse and the three rim nicks.

I surmize the three rim-cuts are from an early holder,or mounting possibly for some type of jewelry.
Long long before slabs coins were sometimes holdered in this fashion.Actually damageing the coin
to make it stay. How barbaric huh.

I don't think what looks like cuts in the rim on the reverse are on the coin, it's on the holder and just making it look like the coin is cut.

hmmm, gee. You might be right.I hope your right.Maybe its the little plastic nibs to hold the coin .
Not familiar with that type. Its not an Airtite.
  • Oops! I now see the edit time before I posted my grade. I guess he was telling us the "answer" while I thought he was asking if we agreed with ACG.image

Oh well, I guess I agreed with ACG. I'm glad I went low.image

Does Crapugrade have 3 plastic nibbies to secure the coin?
If its rim cuts PCGS wouldn`t even slab it(problem coin)....I think. Its sort of a key isnt it.Better date.
    I agree with Catch22.G6....MS06.image
