NOW THIS IS A GREAT AUCTION!!! RESULTS ARE IN!!

RampageRampage Posts: 9,448 ✭✭✭✭✭
I bid on his first one and now again on the second one! He ended the first one early when he had 300 lots sold. It seems like a fair deal to me. What do you all think??

Auction.

I got the following coins out of 40 packages. About 20 IKES. 10 silver rounds. 1 Buffalo nickel in AU. 6 40% Kennedys. 3 Morgan Dollars (nothing special). That's about it. Not bad for paying less than $40.00 for all of it.

Seems to me that someone who is too lazy to sort thru them would be to lazy to pack and ship them as well.

I saw that auction not too long ago. To say the least, I'm a bit skeptical. Of course, all you're going to lose is $1. He's probably just trying to get mailing addresses.

I'm probably being too cynical, but my thought would be he's getting paid 99c per coin to sort through the pile until all that's left is everything that's worth more than 99c.

Mike Greer is a good person and dealer. I will let you know when the lots I bid on arrive and what is in them. Rampage.
  • Heck I gave it a shot myself. I'll post my "winnings" here when I get them.
  • I l;ike surprises, I bid on 10 and will post what I get.
  • Here's my take on it:
If there's money in the lot, it doesn't make sense to take a loss by selling it for less than face value (silver dollar for 99 cents?). It'd be more profitable to spend it as money.

Judging by the photo and the description, it seems he has mostly all mint medals. They probably cost him nothing or nearly so, and is just throwing in some coins to help sell it all, and come out with a profit.

Bid if you like mint medals or like suprises.

I concur with Whispers. All you're going to get is Mint medals and probably nothing else. I suspect the seller just threw in a few real coins for the picture to make viewers think they would actually get coins in the lot.

I hate being a skeptic, but I agree.
    Envelope: 3cents.
    Postage: 35 cents.
    "Coin" 5c to 10c.

That leaves 50cents (or, 100% profit).
Many of these types of "coins" are sold wholesale by the pound (just like common junk sports cards).

If you sent this guy $10.00 you're going to get back about one dollar's "worth" of stuff.

But, I'm being a skeptic as warned. I'll hold final judgement until someone posts what it is they received back in exchange.

  • I also think that the seller is trying to rack up (buy) feedback quickly.

Reminds me of the seller who had a bag of 5,000 common Uncirculated Memorials he was selling for basically the cost of postage. I think he even admitted he was "buying/selling feedback".
    eBay killed the auction.

Man, you did great! I'd pay $40 for that all day long. You made out on that deal.

That is a terrific deal. You almost got back your cost in face value alone! Congratulations! image

  • I got mine today too, and it was a great deal! I bought 10 lots for $9.90 and here's what I got:

    2 1-ounce silver rounds
    3 Circulated Ikes
    3 Circulated 1967 Kennedys
2 Wheat penny errors (?) one looks like a clipped planchet, the other just sorta dinged.

Overall a pleasant surprise since I was expecting a bunch of mint medals. I think I'll bid on his next one, and hopefully he's not like a casino, sucking you in with an easy winner and then gotcha! image

You got a great deal, too. I did not get any errors. imageimage I love errors. Anyway, the next time Mike offers something like this will be within the next two weeks. They will be more of the error grab bag deal.
  • Well, I would be glad to trade the errors for any Ike, Kennedy, Silver round or Morgan you got! image Still, no complaints here.
  • good deal....... it sounds like the person who sold them is losing a lot of money. good for you image hehe

Hey that's pretty cool! It's a good draw to his website & auctions. He's a fellow ErrorWorld member and has a $29,000 1869 IHC struck on a silver planchet on his site.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
