Blay IH set makes it's Registry debut

Not surprisingly Stewart Blay's Indian Head set just hit the Registry with a splash. Avg grade 66+, with every coin 66RD or better except for a run of 65s in the difficult 1866 thru 74 dates. Looking forward to seeing them, especially that 1877 "Golden Princess".

Wow, that's an amazing collection. That surely was a surprise to other registry participants.

Typical Blay set here! Just amazing. I wish we had a pic of that 1877, as well!
  • Nice! But I'm more interested in when he's going to unhide his Lincolns.

Not a single coin with more than 9 coins better. All I can say is WOW and thanks for making it visible.
  • I will make that my first Long Beach show. Naturally I'll take a gander at all the nice Indians!!!! I can't imagine seeing so many nice ones at the same time.
  • Stewart this set is truly wonderful. I'm sure you will amaze everyone at the show. I'm going to try to make it as well.

What a terrific set. It must of been a blast putting it together.

Having had some time to look his listing over, the coins I'm especially curious about besides the obvious keys are:

    1863 & 64 copper-nicks in 66
    1885 thru 92 in 66RD (!)
    1900 in 67RD

All rarely seen grades of lesser known tough dates. The great thing about having these 3 sets available for viewing all at once will be the number of "surprise" coins -- you know, the ones that have that special look a label can't describe.

    Paul,

I suggest you look at the 1862 in ms 67 as I feel it is the prettiest copper nickel cent I've ever seen.

I also like my 1871 as I bought it raw in a small brown envelope

My 1909-s is the nicest one I've ever seen.Rick Snow and Brian Wagner also thought so as they sold it to me in 95 at Long Beach.Of course I've never seen the ms 67......

    lol Rella.

I think Stewart had some inside info PCGS was implimenting the new IH weighting on Friday, so he got his set in before hand just to see that 66.07 unweighted grade. It's indeed an amazing number to look at, now for the actual coins!

Look forward to seeing your recommended 1862 Stewart. Copper-nickel at its finest has a distinct quality all its own. The two varieties of alloy is one of the many reasons I got hooked on this series.

  • I go away for a long weekend and there goes my #1 ranking.
I expected that it would on Monday.

Congratulations to Stewart in putting together such an impressive set of Indian Heads.

It certainly will be an outstanding display of Indian Heads in Long Beach next month and I hope that all of those interested (and even those who are not) in IH's get to see these sets.
