Hi:
I just finished putting togther a nice run of 1983 to 2002 Zinc Lincolns in 69DCAM. Not much of an investment, but I kind of like them.
Here is my question. I thought the bronze pieces ended with the 82S and the Zincs began with the 83S. However, my 83S looks just like the earlier bronze pieces and not at all like the 84 and on Zincs.
So, am I wrong? Did the zincs start in 84. Or, did they start in 83 and I am just imagining my 83 looks bronze. Or, do I have a rare error?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
BTW, I am still looking for a proof zinc Lincoln with a legit grade of PCGS 70DCAM. If anyone has one to sell please send me a PM.

No, not according to David Lange in The Complete Guide To Lincoln Cents . He says that the 1983 proofs were produced with the copper plated zinc composition just like the business strikes. He adds that the 1983 proofs are quite subject to discoloration.
Actually, despite what you said I wondered if, in fact, the 1982 proofs could be zinc-based since some zinc business strikes started appearing that year. However, according to Lange all of the proof cents coined in 1982 were of the brass alloy type which had been used since the early 1960s and no copper-plated zinc cents were made in proof in that year.
