Whats the nicest coin you screwed up???

Well we heard the best coin you bought and the best deal you made , how about the nicest coin you screwed up??

I'll take the first face egg

I had an 1886 Morgan for years, it was raw and looked real nice except it had what looked like a small something on the lower cheek, so its late and I'm tired and I brush at it with my shirt tail, then a little harder. Took it in the next day for submission and the dealer says . This is real nice, could have been a 66 but it looks like its been cleaned. Yeah, it came back in a BB.

Learned a lesson.

Wasn't a nice coin, but i drilled a hole in a Trade dollar to bolt it to the top of my tool box at work.Kinda like a Holy Vest, but only a tool box.

  • 1908 Proof-64 Philippine Peso which cost me $700. THought I'd rid it of a light layer of gunk, now it's in a body bag forever. Remind me not to take a Q-tip to Proof coinage. image

I was using scissors to cut out an 1810 F-15 Bust Half from a cardboard 2x2 and ended up giving the coin a nice pinch between the scissors. It put a shiny new cut mark deep into the rim. Yippee...I am a moron! At least it was only A $50.00 coin.

I do not use scissors any more to cut coins out of 2X2's

  • Once used a letter opener to remove a 2x2 staple, slide right across the coin and gouged it, forget what it was, I'm sure I probably burried it deep in my collection so I wouldn't have to look at it again. Also, as an experiement once dipped a jet black darkside coin (another oxymoron?) until it was a worthless pale gray...at least that was only $30 wasted.

I once dipped an MS65+ 1943-S steel cent in e-z-est. Started bubbling immediately, surface of the coin now looks like the surface of the moon image
