Be glad for negative people!

Original post -- Why is this forum so negative in tone?

Because it is a microcosm of humanity. Not everyone has come to realize that they have been given just one life and that they can be in control of their destiny, and that being negative is being reactionary, which is giving control of their lives to someone else.

But.....thank goodness for negative people!

"I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't!" makes it easier for those of us who say "I can, I can, I can!"

"I can't graduate from high school." - those people cut our lawns - if we didn't have them, I'd have to spend less time doing what I want because I would have to re-direct my attention every week to my lawn.

"I can't become a coin dealer." - those people keep competition low and margins higher than if there were more competition.

etc., etc., etc.

    adrian,
Great way to put it! I'm with you!

My favorite quote is: "For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Reminds me of the little train; "I think I can, I think I can..."

If there were only positive people, those not quite so positive would be viewed as too negative!
  • Hey tradedollar nut - do you have a copy of "CHOPMARKS" (1987) BY F.M. Rose?

I couldn't agree with you more!

In my opinion, the source for that quote contains more human insight and wisdom than any other book.

No, not yet. I positively hope to find one so it doesn't impact negatively on my chopmark collecting efforts!
  • tradedollar nut --

email me (snakesq@aol.com) your mailing address and I'll send you a photocopy (gratis) of the book - it's only 54 pages.

What's the difference between an optimist and a pessimist?

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience.

i think it's an elitist view of life based on the attitude that because someone does not achieve as i do nor wish to achieve as i do, they are less than me. all persons are due the station in life that they choose, whether by action or inaction. circumstances of birth and happenstance along the way play a part, but most important are choices made on an individual level. why castigate another for their choice? if it weren't for the non-dealers, the dealers would be stuck selling to each other at 5% back of bid over and over again. if it weren't for the dregs of society, lawyers would be forced to litigate each other to death. in the great symbiosis of life, we all coexist as the result of each other.

i enjoy paradox. it strikes me as funny that prison guards don't consider themselves to be prisoners just because they get to go home every night. oh well. in summation---another lawyer term!!---if any two of us were alike, one of us would be unneccesary.

"Why castigate another for their choice?"

    Outstanding!

Again, I rejoice that others make the choices that they make and can cut my lawn and choose not to compete against me! I too choose not to engage in many business affairs and those that I would compete against can be glad for my decisions also (not to say that I am competitive, because I am not - unless you are talking about how I challenge myself to be the best me I can be, and in that case I give myself a run for the money!).

I agree with Keets - we should all be happy for being who we are and for those who are not like us and it is unwise to look down our noses at them for we all are different and come from different circumstances!

Be happy for where you are in life, and read Huxley's Brave New World. Tell yourself, "I'm glad I'm a B-- I don't have as much responsiblity as an A, and I'm much better than those C's and D's." image

    Shiro---
For this board we need to change that to:

I'm glad I'm a 64. Less responsiblity than those 65's and so much better than those 60's and 58's!!!

Just give me my friggin soma!

It really bugged me when my 2 1/2 year old daughter got frustrated trying to do something and said, "I can't" for the first time. I showed her how to do what she wanted and haven't heard her say it lately. I sure don't want her to learn that as her life's mantra.

Those who are very successful tend to believe life is entirely by design.
Those who are not as successful know that luck is a major determinant.

My grass grows, and my lawn man comes and cuts it.
A man with disposable income walks into a coin shop and says, "show me what I can spend my money on today!"

Which of these two things is guaranteed to happen again next week?

My lawn guy even planted our tomato plants while I sat in the air conditioning watching mystery science theatre. I do have to pick them myself. You think I should have the lawn guy do that too?
