about crossovers stacy at pcgs says.....

i called pcgs to ask what happens to a crossover slab if pcgs graders believe it to be a lower grade. she said that it is returned in the original slab, unless you request a crossover at any grade or specify no lower than one or two grades, in that case it is reslabbed. in an earlier thread someone said that they are all cracked out. so i guess they sort of grade them in the slab?

Crossover means other service-PCGS.
Regrade guarantee means PCGS-PCGS.
Of course they`re not gonna crack someone elses slab! Unless you specify cross at any grade.
TDN mentioned that PCGS will leave a regrade in the old slab if you REQUEST it and the grade doesn`t change.Otherwise it is cracked out and graded like it was raw. Requesting it to be left in the old holder sounds like a sure-fire way to NOT get it downgraded to me!

that is my point. to prevent a downgrade and request not to crack a coin out unless it grades equal or higher, wouldnt they have to grade it in the slab?

presleyh- Did Stacy say that PCGS will REGRADE a coin in the holder? I understand that the only way to do crossovers is to grade the coin in the holder. If PCGS will in fact regrade a PCGS coin in the holder and only crack the coin if it upgrades then that is great news. We can send all our old green holder coins in and not risk losing that preceived extra value that they carry.

i specifically asked about crossovers. it would seem logical that you could request to regrade only if equal or better. i will call again tomorrow.
