  • They've ran some ads in NN and CW. Their holder is called an "info slab". It gives info about every coin they grade. As far as grading standards go, I have no idea.

Apparently these guys are brand new. I saw their ad for the first time in this week's Coin World. Their gimic is this information about the coin they add on the slab, a different slab design, claims of quick turn-around and good prices, and digital pictures.

Looking at their site, they apparently don't "grade" coins, but only authenticate/certify them. Perhaps this is in reaction to ANA's decision to pull out of the authenticating business?

These guys have come totally out of the blue. I'm really curious about who these guys are, and why they're entering the fray.

    Anybody have any inside info?

The slab looks almost exactly like some old international slabs I have except they put a picture of the slabbed coin where the statue of liberty is.

I went to their site and checked out their sample slabs... pretty cool stuff and they will slab anything including Royal Oak Mint repros, and label them as such.

I, for one, like the slabs. I'm thinking about buying it.

They have been around for several months. There was a thread on the Dark Side forum. I sent for a submission kit. I may have some ancients slabbed by them because of their info holder. I did have a MS66 2001 P Exp. Wash Sac slabbed by them, so they do give a number grade, or at least did. I still have an Exp. Wash Sac slabbed by Global, but it is slabbed CH Brilliant Unc. I donated the MS66 Global Slab to Condor101s slab museum and ongoing slab research project. Mark

  • I believe those are just normal 2001 eagles not recovered from the trade center... but also with no large markup, either, although the "Gem Uncirculated" coins can be had for $50.
  • I'm fairly sure I have described Global on here before.

They are based in Lexington Ky and they were originally scheduled to debute at the 2001 ANA convention but were unable to. I first saw them in Cincinnati last Sept when they had a table at the Greater Cincinnati Numismatic Expo. At that time they were still not ready to accept submissions but they did have sample slabs available for viewing. Full operations began in November. they have done some full page ads in Coin world and several more quarter page ads on a fairly regular basis. I haven't seen many actual production slabs from global but I have seen many "novelty" slabs such as the coin in this ebay auction (I consider this one a novely because the production slabs have a picture of the coin on the slab and information about the coin. This one has the statue of liberty and information about 9-11 rather than the coin.), and silver tokens with a piece of placer gold in it from the SS Central America. The holders themselves are nothing new or special. They are the same labs pioneered by ACG in 1984 and later licensed to INGS, INS, and PCI and are even from the same molds. The logo on the front of the Global slab is even lifted exactly from the INGS slab. The only new feature from Global is the information about the coin that is printed on the back of the slab and the sometimes use of a secondary enlarged picture of a variety diagnostic feature.

    Cool info Conder101.
They had a table set up at Long Beach and I almost went for a "MS69" 1964 Peace dollar (replica). Neat coin in a fun holder.
