boo hoo!

So sad. Today a proud '71 Topps collector saw the only PSA 9 Series One Checklist, HIS PSA 9 Series One Checklist, get downgraded to an 8.

Are you saying they sent the entire slab in to be regraded and PSA dropped em down to an 8...OUCH. Do they take the card out of the slab before regrading?

    John
  • I believe the card gets updated on the pop report then goes to the final grader and he then adjusts the grades. Hence if it pops up one day prey that it sticks for the next couple of days. I watched this happen with my 81 tens. He gobbled up about 15 of them from me...

  • Might have been a buy back. If someone bought a card sight unseen and then they found a flaw that warranted a downgrade, they could have asked for a buyback. Or, it could just be a simple data base error that was corrected. I'm not sure how accurate a day-to-day comparison of the populations would be. It's interesting to look at but I wouldn't take the information as gospel.

  • I do find that true a couple of cards I know of have never been adjusted on buybacks..

  • Hey John,

I think that was my lost PSA 9 checklist, though I am not 100% sure. As mentioned above, grades make it into the pop report before they are finalized by the last grader and it looks like they kicked that one down.

Don't boo hoo for me too much though, as I think I have the Ellis, Jackson, Concepcion 9s in that order...if they hold up that is.

    John,

Looks like i get to say that one of those 9's that have popped recently is mine. My invoice just popped and it shows that i'm got a 9 on card #633 AL rookies.......its a 1 of 5, but I'll take it

  • Yeah, my Reggie is up, but I could sure use some help. I have no idea as to what to ask for the card. I've had a few inquiries on the card....but whats a fair price? The knowledge on this board as as good as it gets and if anyone has any (informed) input I'd sure appreciate it. $1500? $5000?

Also, any input on a '71 PSA 10 Phillies Team would be appreciated as well (my National find!)

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,

My guess is that you be hearing from marc (mikeschmidt on the forum) and (55bowman on eBay) very shortly on the 71 Phillies Team PSA 10. To be honest - I don't know what they'll bring right now. I'm still figuring $2200 - $2500 on the Reggie.

As for the PSA 10 Phillies team - since 71 PSA 9's are going between $200 and $300. I wouldn't think that $1000 is outrageous (for a piece of cardboard wrapped in plastic).

    Just my 2 cents...

Oh and I forgot to mention - Nice Rally Monkey!

    Doc-

You have heard from me! I sent you an e-mail, and I thank FB for alerting me to the card. As the consumate (read: crazy) Phillies collector, I would be esctatic to upgrade my 1/1 PSA 9 for that PSA 10 you have. I have sent a cash offer to you, but would also be willing to do a cash offer in combination with the PSA 9 in case you have any interest in that.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Doc - There was a PSA 10 Reggie Smith about four or five months back that sold for just shy of $800 if my memory serves me correctly. The guy who's Ebayid is "onelotus" bought it.
  • Doc, I must say the Reggie's beauty brings tears to my eyes, WOW!!

  • Steve,

What I want to know, does the monkey come with the Phillies 10 and does he have any grading experience?
