Make up your own registry set

I see PCGS has added another registry group called "proof sets." To me a "proof set" implies US mint packaging; thus, I would call these year sets or sets of proofs. That aside, if you were given the opportunity to make up your own registry set what would it be? Mine would be a Kennedy silver proof registry set consisting of 64, 64AH, 69S, 70S, 76S, and 92S-02S coins required; with 65, 66, 67, and 98S SMS coins as optional.

    Steve:

    What happened to the 68?

My set would be modern type, mint state and proof, one from each major type only.

One proof and one mint state of each of the following: Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Nickel, Clad Roosevelt Dime, Clad Washington Quarter, Clad Statehood Quarter, Clad Kennedy, Clad IKE, SBA, Sac. No Bicentennials. 18 coins. Two Eagle album pages.

Easy you say, then try it in highest possible grade, and each piece has to be legitimate for the grade. image

  • An unappreciated series: 1965-1967 SMS coins. With CAM or DCAM!!

Five denominations, three years, fifteen coins. Not too many and too few. What a challenging task.

The set would be called "Coins I have because I bought them because I liked them, or thought it was a good deal at the time, or wanted it for some reason but now it's just a bunch of coins" set.

There would also be a cap on the grades so no coin could be registered that is higher than mine.

But as soon as PCGS applied weights to the set, I'd probably still be stuck at #2 forever.
