Ebay Seller Wants Feedback

Have you ever had someone email you to request that you post feedback?
I was the buyer in an auction for a Silver Proof Set and I just received the coins on Friday. The Seller emailed me Monday Night and requested feedback. Because the Seller requested the feedback, I took a look at my feedback and noticed he has not left me feedback yet. Since I made the payment the day the auction ended, he should have given me feedback right away or at the very least when he shipped the package...
To be honest, leaving him feedback was on my "To Do" list... and even though he said he shipped it priority, he actually sent the proof set in a manila envelope (not padded) 3rd class mail, charged me $5 for shipping when the shipping was $1.75 and the envelope probably cost 20 cents... I was still going to leave him a positive because the coins arrived in good condition, but it just irked me!
Sorry, I just had to spout off.

Since he gouged you on the shipping, I would wait until he posts you feedback. Then I would leave him neutral feedback stating the bait and switch on the shipping cost.

Proud of America!
I Have NO PCGS Registry Sets!
I would also tell him you are waiting for your feedback, and casually mention the fact that he changed shipping methods so he could pocket the extra money.
As a seller I always leave positive feedback if the buyer fulfills his part of the transaction - I don't wait until the seller has left feedback. Its unethical behavior to demand that buyers leave feedback first.
Any seller who wrote a note the way the one in this post did by Dakra WOULD NOT get positive feedback and I'd report them to eBay!
Thank you for your attention - time to go pet the cat.
I never leave feedback until I recieve my coins. Am I being rude, unrealistic, out of step, or something else?
I pay immediatley by Paypal but have actually never checked to see "when" I get a feedback...I always expect one though.

I totally understand but this seller is requesting feedback prior to leaving me "the buer" feedback. I always leave feedback. If I am the seller, I leave feedback once I receive the funds or when I ship the item. If I am the buyer, I leave feedback after I have received and inspected the item. Had he given me feedback prior to his email, I would have been glad to leave positive feedback. For a seller to request feedback when they have not given the buyer feedback yet is..is..is unusual... Unless you are expecting a negative feedback and want the opportunity to leave a retalitory feedback.
I emailed the seller back and stated I was waiting for their feedback... Just for curiousity sake, I want to see if he leaves the feedback first.

To some, feedback seems more important than actually getting what you bought.
If someone emails me asking for feedback without even asking if I had received the item, or was satisfied, I would wait a week or so to give it just cause. If they said they were shipping priority, and did not, I would note it in the feedback, but if the item arrived as described, I would still give a positive.
As a buyer, I expect feedback from the seller. I usually pay immediately with PayPal if it is accepted, USPS money order for more expensive items, or personal check. I have at times refused to leave a seller feedback if I thought the coin was less than par but not worth the expense of returning it.

I think that the seller really SHOULD be the first to leave feedback based on your payment and communication and anyone who "holds back the feedback" to "see what you say" doesn't deserve any + feedback.
When I sell I always give feedback as soon as I can (i.e. when the paypal arrives, check clears, money order is received)
Seller first, buyer when they're satisfied.

Just a small comment. I care very much if I get a positive feedback as a BUYER. I am not a seller. As I have said on many posts it is not always easy to get a USA located seller that will agree to ship to me in Norway.
Right or wrong I think a postive feedback history (fir me) helps me get an agreement to ba able to bid, in the first place, and to have the coin(s) posted if I win.
Just a personal point.

Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
For example buyer leaves neg because seller stated it was minted in Philly and there is no mint mark. So I understand this nonsense.
But I still feel if buyer pays they fulfilled their end of contract. And also agree that it is kind of being held for ransom to have to leave feedback as a buyer first before seller does. I have one right now that played that game.
I paid instantly with paypal . When I received I instantly left feedback
for seller. Then emailed seller letting them know I received and left feedback.Kindly asked them to do the same. They didn't.
I saw another auction seller stated they would leave feedback once you receive and they know you are happy. I don't agree, Now you have to be happy to get good feedback. You paid that's it.

There are many reasons why you should not leave feedback as soon as you are paid, but wait until the transaction is complete. Some sellers consider a buyers feedback as a sign the transaction is complete.
Most sellers are great. But even ebay at end of auction states for seller to leave feedback when they get payment. And buyer do same when received. Honestly I really don't care about feedback.
But if thats the right way to do business than thats what I try to do.
It chaps my hide when I go thru the time to do it and they don't.
As I'm self employed I allways go xtra mile for customer.

The problem with Abldie55's argument is that it is anecdotal. You can always find one, or a limited number of instances where there is crazy buyer or crazy seller behavior. But the reality is most transactions go fairly smoothly - if they didn't, Ebay woudln't be in business.
The idea that the "seller comes first" is BS. If I sell something and then the seller does something wierd I can always amend my feedback or complain to eBay. But to hold the buyer hostage to my feedback as a seller is wrong and I won't buy from any seller that knowingly uses this tactic. My buyers get positive feedback when they pay, period. A few "negs" is all part of the risk of doing business.
This new attitude that the seller deserves some kind of economic welfare or can act like a landlord renting property is ridiculous! For me, let these sellers play their blackmail game - in the end it only drives the buyers to those of us who treat our customers fairly and with respect (maybe I'm just old-fashioned because I believe that "the seller is always right").
Some reasons for no feedback from me, as a buyer, include: item was paid for by credit card but not shipped for a week or so later but the coin is OK. When I should have known better than to believe a sellers hype but bought the thing anyway (I consider this circumstance my fault since I am not really new to the buy/sell game but sometimes think that others are as honest as I try to be).
One of the most entertaining sellers that emailed me requesting feedback is the one that listed an 1882S Morgan as GEM BU (MS65 to my way of thinking) that the photo showed as AU at best with a die chip and rubs on Liberty's cheek. I bid AU price for the clean die chip example and won a coin that on receipt looked like some one had took a dremel tool to it to hide the die chip (thus the rubs on the cheek in the photo). My mistake, should have known better - no feedback. Seller requested feedback multiple times until I made it clear that this coin is going to sit directly next to my monitor to remind me not to be so trusting any ebay seller and that any feedback left would reflect that statement (this seller has lots of coin and other items feedback and could not claim ignorance of this coins condition). This coin was less than $20.00 and the seller did offer refund. Had the coin been more spendy I probably would have returned it but still would not have left positive feedback.

It is true!
check oreville user name in ebay.
My newer ebay user name oreville21 has a better track record of feedbacks.
So let me get this straight... you bid on your own items to get your feedback up...You knew the condition of the coin that you were selling to yourself, you received the coin and decided you didn't like it anymore and you left yourself negative feedback and because you didn't like the response you gave yourself, you left a retalitory negative feedback....to yourself :-) Your one tough buyer/seller.

dbldie55 is correct.
You should rephrase your posting to read as follows: .........
"So let me get this straight... you PURPOSELY gave yourself a negative feedback get your feedback DOWN .....not up...You knew the ramifications of what you were doing.....decided you didn't like yourself anymore and you left yourself ANOTHER feedback......this time neutral.......... since ebay would not allow a second negative feedback to count.......because you didn't like the response you gave yourself you left a a SECOND retalitory negative feedback....to yourself :-) Your one tough person!"
