Proof Year Sets to Registry

I just got my R+I newsletter in the mail today, and on the front page, "PCGS will be adding PROOF YEAR SETS to the REGISTRY". This comes straight from David Hall. As a collector of 1950-70 cameos, I think what a great idea. I'd like to see them expand it a little further, though, and include a complete 1950-64 set with all denominations. That may be too many coins, but I think it would be cool, since a lot of people collect them.

What's your thoughts.

I am definitely interested in the year sets. I think they will be a lot of fun. A complete set would be a lot of coins...what an undertaking. Not cheap, either. I have to say, that would be a very coll thing to behold. how many coins would that be in total? About 200? That is a big set.

  • It would be 75 coins for 1950-64 (silver issues) proof coins with halves, quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies. This is a good time period because of the cameo designs found in these years. This does not include the variations, though. You can also add 1965-70 (30 additional coins), because of the way they were made. I'd also like to see a short set of all the 65-67 SMS coins (15 coins).

I would edit my above comments to add that I am most interested in MS Year sets. I think those would be much more interesting than proof sets for the years. It will eliminate the 70DCAM variable and all that is entailed in that quagmire.

  • Hey, cool!!! I get to add my 1907 proof set when they get that year listed... Hmm, I think it will be easy for me to be in the top 5 for a while.

    Don:

There is already a market for your proofs. Send me a PM with what you would like to sell.

I personally like Don's idea of a 1965-67 SMS registry set. A three-year set, on top of the year sets, should be a no-brainer to Newport Beach ... A 15-coin set that can be a huge challenge to assemble in CAM/DCAM, particularly the '65s.
