cavs to match ricky davis, tim hardaway a knickerbocker? damon update, kevin willis in purple &

LIKELY TO MATCH
Ultimately the decision is NOT Jim Paxson’s, rather it falls to Cavs owner Gordon Gund, but word from Cleveland is the Cavaliers will match the offer sheet given to restricted free agent Ricky Davis. The way this plays out is pretty simple. Once a restricted free agent signs an offer sheet his team has 15 days to match the offer or lose him. After the offer sheet is signed, all talk of trades, whether they are sign and trade, or trades to block the move are off. Its up to Cleveland to keep him by matching, or let him walk to Minnesota, there are no other options. In speaking with media last week Cavs GM Jim Paxson said "We have made it clear that we would like to keep Ricky and that part of the thinking hasn't changed from my initial conversations with Gordon and John. When we actually receive the offer, we'll take the time to make a decision... Even after trading for Miles, our intent was to have all three of them. If we choose to keep Ricky, I don't see any issues. We'd have a good group of young players I feel good about keeping under contract... Part of making the trade for Wes Person was to position ourselves to keep Ricky if we choose to. We value Ricky, and this shows that other people in the league value Ricky." Because the offer sheet was signed later Friday, it will become official beginning today, meaning the Cavs will have 15 days from today.

TIM HARDAWAY A KNICK?: This rumor won’t go away… sources close to the Knicks are saying that free agent Tim Hardaway has been in contact with the Knicks about solving their point guard problem, who in the room could imagine TimBug in MSG donning a Knicks jersey? Sorry I’ll believe that one when I see it …

wow..former rivals for hardaway and the heat, it'd be weird to see him in a knicks uni.

DAMON UPDATE: Wolves source are laughing off reported interest by the Pups in Damon Stoudamire, as rumors had linked the Wolves to Damon, with some going as far as saying Wally Szczerbiak, Terrell Brandon and Anthony Peeler heading to the Blazers for Damon and a re-signed Bonzi Wells, lets forget for moment that it doesn’t work under the cap, but Wolves sources said while the club has respect for Damon’s ability as a basketball player, they are NOT moving to acquire him in trade, again sighting his contract is too prohibitive…

KEVIN WILLIS?: The Atlanta Hawks were the latest team to show interest in Big Kev, but recently rumors of Willis in LA have picked up and it appears with Shaquille O’Neal likely on the shelf for most of training camp and the pre-season the Lakers have stepped up their efforts to find a reserve Big Man that can give the 20 minutes a game. The Lakers have little to offer in terms of cash, but league sources say Willis’ suitors are all talking league minimum and the appeal of a title in LA, may swing the balance…

Comments

  • Well, for all of the (very little) help Davis would have given the Twolves, they won't even get that now. The Twolves are fading...I'd put the Lakers, Spurs, Kings, Mavs, Clippers and Suns ahead of them in the playoff icture as rosters now stand.
  • Kevin WIllis is old already, cant the lakers get a younger big guy? He doesnt have to be AWESOME, but just someone younger.
Rest in peace Josh, we'll all miss you
  • NoDoubt64, love the 31.6% of Bibbys. I have 67.7% of all Webbers made and have lots coming in. Should hit 70% soon. Way to go though.

  • suns ahead of t-wolves? u must be kidding man. the suns aren't gonna make the playoffs although their future looks bright w/ amare, marion, marbury, joe johnson.

    suns to shine..image

and nodoubt, that's what the lakers need. a seasoned veteran who can also be a great locker room presence.
  • Hardaway a Knick, upgrade over anyone we have and who knows, thats pry about as BS as the Mourning rumours. Layden is a dipsh!t so whatever he does it will be stupid. Wolves do suck, and Suns are better then them. Marbury,Marion if Hardaway returns to form who knows. Garnett is a one man recking crew, I like him but he never takes the big shot.

Kevin Willis started with the Hawks back in the mid 80's and he was AMAZING! He's definitely way passed him prime, but he can still rebound and get inside with his big bulk and score down low. It won't be as flashy as it used to be, but he can still give you some good minutes. I think him going back to Atlanta would be a good pick-up for the Hawks. But, the Hawks are looking to stay young, so they might not offer anything to him. That's what it would seem anyhow...

    Willis still is amazing!
    he'd do great on PF
the Lakers don't need a young body, they need experience, someone who knows his role and not some young sprout who wants to steal the show
    Willis RULES! image
