just sent some toned coins to NGC

darktonedarktone Posts: 8,437 ✭✭✭
I just sent this proof lincoln ,obverse. And this half dime ,reverse. I picked NGC over PCGS because NGC seems like a better chance for not getting it body bagged for AT. I also sent in my 1982 no FG half that board members thought had a chance of a 66-67 and for the heck of it I even sent in two 96-W dimes. Also included the cracked out 1913 $10 that PCGS graded AU 58 and a few others I had sitting around. image mike

"I picked NGC over PCGS because NGC seems like a better chance for not getting it body bagged for AT."

I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from. Do you think they're ATed? Do you think PCGS is better at spotting ATed coins so you're sending them to NGC in hopes of getting them into a major services slab ATed or not? Or do you think PCGS is not as good at spotting ATed coins and would bag it because they're more likely not to be able to make a definitive decision regarding ATed or original and when in doubt they would err on the side of caution and bag the coin?

Good luck. I'd say both are AT and will be bodybagged.

I think the half dime has a shot at getting slabbed. I'ce seen lots of others with like colors, just different patterns. The Lincoln looks clearly AT.

I agree with Greg. The half dime has about an 80% of making it. The Lincoln is AT, IMO.

You should really take PMH's post to heart. You should, in your own mind, try to answer them. It may help you avoid wasted money in the future. image

I think that the Lincoln is for sure ATed. The half dime, looks like possible AT.

I don't think the half dime is AT but the Lincoln sure is!

Nice coins, but they both show the colors and patterns of chemical AT. ANACS would be a good choice after NGC as they will net grade the coin even with artificial colors. Love the 1c. PM us if you ever want to sell them. image

jom- I don't consider this wasted money either way it goes on these two coins. As for taking pmh1nic comments to heart and try to answer them in my own mind- I am lost with that comment I have tried to figure out what you meant but I am just not sure? I send about 400 coins a year for grading and NGC is more apt to grade a coin with these colors in my experience. Please don't try to read anything more into this I just thought some people here would like to take a guess on these before they are graded.

pmh1nic that coin has been posted in a thread before. ½ the members said AT and the other ½ said real and now the owner is sending it off to see what the graders say.

Dark: I sorry that you might have taken offense to my comment. I didn't know the extent at which you send coins into the service plus I was trying to make it a general comment for everyone, not just you. "Wasted money" would be from MY point of view, that's all. If I were sending coins in and they come back AT it is wasted cash to me.
