Who to call/email when you have a BIG problem with PCGS?

Here is what happend: I sent quarterly spcial, moderns, crossovers and regular service coins in ONE envelope with combined shipping request. Simple enough? Not so.

I left for a montlong assingment to Puerto Rico on Jul 16. On Jul 15 TWO envelopes came from PCGS (one contained regular servce coins one modern) to add to my irritationwith these TWO envelopes a letter came that I owe PCGS $72.50 [for 2 coins + $12.50 S/H] imageimage and they cashed my check with correct grading fees total and correct S/H to add to my irritation the bill had due date of 7/10/02 imageimage.

I was flying the next morning and I had no time to deal with this BS.

Well now I'm back. Rest of the coins came back in the meantime. There are two more envelopes from PCGS containig bills for grading and S/H (the total is 3 bills totaling over $240 imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage) and I'm really pi$$$$ed.

I don't feel like I owe them anything. The grading fees are complete BS. and they should not be on the bill AT ALL. I don't feel responsible for any extra S/H charges either since it's them who screwed up and did not follow instructions.

Who is the best cust. serv. rep. there I need name, e-mail or even the phone fix this mess.

Sorry for harsh languagle but nothing gets on my nerves more than BS like that!

Charlie Kahler is the one to talk to. He's at extension 141.

  • FYI, though some have apparently been able to combine shipping in the past, it is explicitly against their rules as stated on the submission forms.

I wish you luck but please keep in mind that PCGS announced either in June or July that they would no longer batch invoices together and make one shipment to customers if it wasn't convenient for them.

Well they did lump some of them!

That still doesn't explain the double grading fee.

Supercoin where doesn't say that you cannot combine shipping?
  • Ok, I read my submission form before posting this time. image It doesn't explicitly say that, but they are definitely adamant about one submission type per invoice, and the shipping cost calculation is per invoice, ergo...

I've also explicitly asked them about combining shipping in the past and was refused. But, to my surprise, I read here recently that others have been able to do it. Apparently now they aren't letting anyone do it.

That said, I'm sure if you raise a stink (nicely image) with PCGS they'll try to make you happy.

So this is the definition of an ethical company? WOW!!! It's called ransom IMO. This is what these so-called ethical companies do.

  • Huh? That term sure seems to be thrown around a lot lately.

They're pretty incompetent kidnappers, seeing as how they returned his coins before getting their ransom payment.

If they had waited a month to contact sadysta1 before doing anything with his coins people would be jumping on them for that. Sometimes you can't win in the coin biz.

Now, change "unethical" to "bumbling", and you've got a pretty good case. image

I had a problem that when I sent in submissions I'd add the postage on the check using the little chart they give. Then the guy whose number I use would get statements saying I didn't pay the postage and owed them for it. The guy just paid them. I didn't know this was going on until he called me to say I owed him $300 for postage. I called the billing department and they said there was a $349 credit on the account and she would send a check. She was so nice about it I didn't give her a hard time.

When I submit coins there are usually several invoices and I would use one check. I think that cofuses them. Now I send one check for each invoice. Friday I sent a group off to them. 3 invoices--3 checks.

    Sadysta1,
I think if you call the billing dept they will be able to straighten it out. You will owe something since I don't think you can combine invoices to save money on postage.

Sometmes I will get a box back with several invoices and I don't think they discout the postage. I can't figure it out because the billing system makes no sense.

How about PCGS telling me that I have to send coins in 2 different packages... One package for my regular grading, and one package for 1 coin designation review...

Shipping and handling on the first one was 12.50, shipping and handling on the second was 13.50.... they receive the first package 1 week before they receive the second package. THEN they grade the coins, wait on the second package and SEND THE COINS BACK TO ME TOGETHER... That p1ssed me off. How can they tell me to send them seperate, charge me 2 shipping fees, then send them BACK TO ME TOGETHER??????? They slimed me for $12.50....

  • I used to get combined return shipping privileges from PCGS but NO MORE. My last submission contained 5 seperate invoices, which I combined as always. Someone from their accounting department called me and told me that was no longer permissible. I asked this person if my 5 different invoices would be sent back me in 5 different shipments and was told yes unless it was more "convenient" for them to do otherwise. As it turned out, the 5 different invoices were shipped in 5 seperate shipments in this case. I was lurking around ready to cause a big "stink" if they all came back in one or two shipments. Guess the "party is over".image

You can call Peter Ma. I think his extension is 121.
  • Sounds like PCGS wants convienence, instead of pleasing their customers, and try to save them a few coin(no pun) in the process.

Do any of you complainers (don't take it personally) remember the membership package you received when you joined? All the rules are clearly laid out, particularly the one about one invoice per type submission. I have been a member since '99 and with every renewal, I get the membership package, a special invoice for my freebies, a package of instructions on submissions and PCGSs requirements. I think if you follow the company you are doing business with policies and not the various attempts to subvert those polices that are mentioned in the forum, you would be better off, less disappointed and not get so worked up. Granted, there maybe some error within your specific transactions, but most of the time, its because someone followed the advise of a thread and not the speicific guidelines included with your membership package. Some of this info is even on the submission forms, and if you no longer have your membership package, ask for a new one from PCGS. I'm glad PCGS began allowing direct submissions, but I surely can relate to why it used to be only allowed through authorized dealers.
