Hey All:
A while ago someone was asking about the differences between Type I and Type II 1956 Franklin Proofs and here is a picture which shows pretty clearly the differences - I hope Morris doesn't mind that I swiped his picture from a current Ebay auction, so as a public service announcement I'll state that he does have the type I on auction and it's pretty rare - not to mention the fact that its a pretty nice coin he has. I tried to put both pictures together, but the composite picture was too big - so. Of the proofs that were minted that year, less than 5% are type I's so if you run into one it's pretty scarce, yet you can still pick a type I up in PR66 for about $50 - go figure.
Regards,
Frank

The difference is in the detail of the eagle's feathers. If you look at the type I picture it lacks most of the feather detail. In the type II they restored it. You can see this really clearly if you look at Mo's Type I pictures then at the one that I posted for a type II.
