toned superb gem proof CAMEO merc dime

this coin is a superb gem proof and the only thing keeping it from a 68 is the middle band is not fully split otherwsie it is totally hairline and mark free the color is very nice with rose on the reverse rims the coin also looks like the photo and it is cameoed both sides but some of the toning at the top of miss libertys head does come in contact with the cameo it is still cameo and this coin was graded before the services started designating cameo on the holders for pre 1950 proofs

the eye appeal is fantastic and the mirrors are deep on the obverse and medium on the reverse but still is a solid cameo on the reverse and a cameo plus on the obverse

sincerely michael

michael, great looking coin! I have a 42 proof also but it does not compare to yours! How rare is a cameo proof Mercury dime? You must have a very nice collection as every coin of yours I see is excellent.

thasnks for the nice reply a 2labmom !!

in my opinion darktone a merc dime like this that is a superb gem proof with this kind of cameo contrast not deep cameo mind you but just a nice two sided cameo!! combined with the superb toning and yet most all of the cameo is still visible both sides to me this is a very rare coin underapprecaited and a sleeper in many years of looking i have not seen another prettier example

WOW This is a great dime. Try to find any cameo on a silver proof from 36 to 42. They are rare. In over 25 years, this is the first dime I've seen and I've seen one 36 half.

What holder is this in? Does it grade 67 now?
  • Michael:

That gorgeous mercury is making me salivate.
From what I can see the coin looks unimprovable.

the coin sits in an older holder before ngc started certifying cameo merc proof coins NGC PROOF 67 HOLDER it is undergraded but with the not fully split middle band this coin i think will stay in a 67 holder otherwise it is a 69! can i say 69 on here? if you get my drift
