Toning on Peace versus Morgan silver dollars????

Ok here are three questions:
(1) Why do Peace Dollars rarely have the same lovely toning that Morgan silver dollars have? Even their golden toning is rarely golden and seems to be more yellowish in color?
(2) Why has Peace Dollars never developed the same demand factor for the fewer toned coins that has actually been discovered?
(3) Why is solid white Peace Dollars so much in demand vis a vis Morgans?
I have asked these questions before but never got a straight answer!

All I can tell you about this is what I have read.....
1)Peace Dollars, being minted much more recently, have not had as much time to interact with the sulfer in the bags and there are beliefs that the acid bath in which the planchets were washed after annealing was more highly concentrated for Peace Dollars than Morgan's thus slowing the toning process.
2)I personally believe the "colorful, unique" Peace dollars probably would command much more of a premium over the Morgan.
3)From my experience, a colorful Peace dollar set would be very difficult and costly to put together thus the ease of the all "white" set. For Morgan's, I don't know.....

They don't bring the premium they "should" compared to an equivalently rare toned Morgan, though. I'd guess the ratio of truly nice toned Peace dollars to Morgans is less than 1 to 100, anyone with more experience with them back that up?
Peace dollars in general are overall less popular than Morgans, of course. And it could also be that since it'd be so difficult to put together a monster toned Peace dollar set that almost nobody tries.
You just don't see toned Peace dollars...they are far rarer (there's that word again!) than Morgans with tone.

<< <i>I share your wonder why Peace dollars don't enjoy the same "toning interest" that Morgans have >>
Because they don't normally take on the beautiful toning that Morgans do. At times you can find Peace Dollars with the right colors, but the flash is not there, so the colors will be drab, and does not seem to lay on the surfaces as it does on most Morgans. They also have trouble with spotting, like a lot of there white counterparts do. Also most Peace Dollars develop a mottled effect which with the absence of flashy luster takes away from the eye appeal of the coin. In my eyes and my eyes only (the old beauty is in the eyes of the beholder thing) I have only seen one Peace Dollar that approaches a Morgan in Vivid Color, and the flash necessary to bring up these colors and I bought it. I have to give credit where credit is due. I probably never would have got to this coin on time (Before it sold) if it wasn't for a member of this board who tracked me down and let me know that it was available.

ArtR, do you have a photo of that "one" Peace dollar? Would love to see it!
It is the reversed toned Peace Dollar that I have up on my Web Page, and also the one that I use as my icon.
may want to borrow a few pics also
Will always give credit to who owns the pic/coin.

It was a small local coin show, I was looking at a mediocre toned Peace dollar and asked if he had any more. He pulled out a box with about 10 of them, 3 or 4 were stunners. But, unfornutately not for sale. He knew what he had and apparently just liked showing off.
<< <i>Art, in that case, sad to say, I've seen some Peace dollars that have us both beat. >>
The Good Part: Sooner or later some where down the road this always seems to happen.
The Bad Part: The guy is never willing to sell.
Thoughts?
Very nice !

Both are gorgeous coins! I've been looking but its seems like I've got a lot of company . There was a common date, nicely toned coin on Ebay last week with about 15% ~ 20% of the color on your coins. The high bid was $200 all week but it ended up getting sniped at $350.
Do you have a link to that auction? Would like to see it for comparison.
Here is the link to the auction I mentioned. My memory was a little off. The coin went for $330.00.
Toned Peace Dollar
The eBay coin does look like it has a nice pattern, but unless it's more vibrant in real life it doesn't really do much for me.
But if you're trying to put together a toned Peace set, you probably take what you can get!
$3,300...not from me but I won't be surprised if you could get that in a heated up auction.
