Do you agree with the grade on this Barber 10¢?

The seller says it's 64 but PCGS says 63. It's a decent coin but I think 63 is the proper grade. Looks kinda weakly struck. What do all you think? Am I missing something?Text
ps I know the seller is a board member but that don't stop me from asking opinions on it. image
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Not sure. If it has nice luster then it could be a PQ or even a 64. Same old problem ... can't tell with picture.

Hard to tell by the scan. But hey if PCGS says it...it must be so!image looks nice and the 97-S is a much better date.

Does looked dipped though. I am of the opinion that dipped coins will retone with that negative image look...darker in the fields and lighter around the protected devices. Of course it could be the scan. Unc. scans can look much different than the coin looks in reality.

MS 63 or 64 I don't think I can tell by the scan.

  • It looks PQ to me. But like jom said, it's hard to tell with the picture.

My opinion, poor picture. The black spot on the back might be one of those that grow over time.I would trust pcgs and bid based on 63.

Yes, I agree the picture sucks...the thing is probably an AU 58. image

Sure looks closer to GEM than Choice to me! Seeing this one (per the scan) in an MS64 holder shouldn't offend even the strictist of Numismatists.

same old story, the coin is dipped, which is why it has a chalkie look to it. how can silver stay white after 1-5 years??? i say 62, but its typical for a "white" coin to get benefit of the doubt.

I agree that the coin looks dipped, and although can't tell for sure by the scan, it looks a bit mushy near the forehead, although that could be the scan, and can't tell for sure. The toning spot on the rev. kills any chance to go higher, and probably lacking in luster a bit, but can't tell that for sure either. Still, a very tough date coin that makes a huge jump in the next grade. If I was doing Barber dimes, I'd probably snag this one, you don't see these too often, and the price seems reasonable for the given coin.
