What is going on with this cent??

Another coffee can find. This was in my change for the coffee fund. Anyone have any ideas. One half of the cent is a little darker red than the other. The reverse doesn't have the silver line. The details (ie: the hair, and words) are not worn down at all. Very strange.

A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

Looks like it might be a plating problem. Is the silver-colored area "on top" of the copper plating or is it where the copper ISN'T plated?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • It looks as if the coin was struck by something and left its mark and some of its color?

The deformed rim @ 6k leads me to believe it is post mint damage. Looks like it was in contact with something that caused a electrolytic reaction and dissolved the plating.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Looks like someone used it to wipe off the tip of their solder gun.

Perhaps someone used it to level a file cabinet. Looks like something heavy and metalic caused it to react at the point of impact.

Looks like the mint thought about doing another half cent and changed their minds.
