1959D lincoln cent - will it sell at auction?

Anyone have any info on the 59D lincoln coming up in a September auction? I heard it will make its first appearance as a mintstate coin (thanks to the magic of the guy running the auction) as opposed to its prior history as an AU 58. Origionally the sellers were asking $100,000 plus!! Now that it has been enhanced, will it sell at all?????

May I assume this is the 1959-D with a Wheatback reverse?

IMHO it will be necessary for one of the four leading grading services (PCGS,NGC,ANACS or ICG) to actually slab this coin before it will sell. That is the KEY to any future for this coin. So far, none of these companies want to go out on the limb and take a firm position. A collector would be foolish to pay whatever reserve is asked by the current seller without knowing he has an item that is recognized by the hobby as a collectible. Steve

Hi. I was approached about doing a story on this coin prior to the auction. I asked the owner of the coin to have the auction firm contact me, and there was no follow-up contact. It's always interesting when auctioneers DO NOT seek publicity for a special coin. In the past Ive done reports on mule Sacs, the two-headed Indian, a copper 1943 and others. cheers, alan mendelson
