I Just Bought an Original Unopened Bag of 1955-S Lincoln's

Should I start a thread to start giving some of them away, or should it be a contest and just one winner for a bunch of 'em??

I think you should search them for high grades. There is big money to be made.

I remember how thrilled I was as a teenager to find a 55-S in change. It was like hitting the lottery, relatively speaking. That was the last coin I needed for the 1941-date Lincoln Whitman album.

Just think, it won't be very many years before most collectors won't ever have the chance to own a mint bag of coins.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • You could cherry pick the PQ coins and then you could give some to the newbies of late. Of course, that's a lot of pennies to look at. They will all seem the same after a while. Good luck!

  • dragon,

I'd look for high grade and rpm's until you get tired and then have a giveaway but then again, that's easy for me to say. Or pick out some good ones and do a giveaway to people who want and will pay for it to be slabbed.

By the way, you have been very generous lately. Thanks.

You need to give one to every person who has NOT sent in the "coin of the quarter". It is a 1955 date. That way there can be a bunch graded for free (plus s&h).image. Any I hate to admit it, but I just sent in a real nice 1955 cameo franklin half (I didn't have anything else to send in).
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Please don't blame the messenger, but ...

Unfortunately, the number of 1955-S Lincolns in the PCGS pop reportis 1272 which is the highest number of any of the post-WW II Lincoln wheaties. And, 117 of them have been graded ms67rd - also the highest number among post-WW II Lincoln wheaties. HOWEVER, mister dragon if you find a ms68rd in there (matching the only post-war PCGS-ms68rd in existence right now), then let me know immediately. A pop-2 isn't quite as good as a pop-1, but it certainly ain't bad! Good luck!

  • I would put them on E-BAY with a buy it now price of $10.00, and have one of the guys here use the buy it now option and end the auction. In your description say you have 5 more bags you will be auctioning. Then see how many e mails you get in the next three days. The person here that guesses the closest gets a few pennies. imageimage
  • That's not possible. Everyone here knows that no one has saved any bags of coins minted in the last 50 years.image

I, also, hate to beg, but I could really use the worst coin in the entire bag. I will trade, give to charity, etc., at your request.

You know it's time to stop looking through them when they all start looking like '55 double dies! My eyes hurt.

That won't last too long. (but it's a different date). image

These bags typically contain only 12 to 14 different die pairs. So if there's one variety
or high grade coin, there will be many. The 55-S comes with a real nice strike and with
little marking many times. You'll probably at least have a substantial number of MS-65's.
    (and about a 1 in 20 chance of 75 or so MS-66's).
