Infinite pedigree question.

Once you are in the top 5 and get a Pedigree. Cool. But, can someone answer the following related questions:

1. If you DOWNGRADE a coin can you still pedigree the new one? I.e. you sell your big-daddy and then pedigree your replacement coin which isn't as fine.

2. Can you still pedigree a coin should you fall from the top 5?

3. What is the additional fee for future pedigree's?

    1. Yes
    2. I thought not, but I've heard people say yes. (So, I don't know)
    3. $5 per coin

    Hello Barytrot,

I talked to BJ in June about getting a new coin pedigreed from a previously pedigreed set. He e-mailed me that coins for update of a pedigreed set could be peddigeed even if the set had fallen out of the top 5. The reholdering fee of $5 applies. I don't know if you can pedigree a coin with a lower grade. I don't understand why you would want to.

You can pedigree your entire set regardless of the lesser coin's grade. BTW.. BJ is a she.
HAVE A GREAT DAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!

thats easy enough to understand once you have been there....i was one of the first ever to pedigree ( i was actually the 2nd morgan set to ever pedigree )....along came this guy named bob dier....he thought he had a better set than mine......i built mine with the idea i could fend off anyone who didnt spend at least 1.5 million......i did it by owning the keys ( the way it should be done)......however pcgs and their weighting system was and still is broken......and here is why

    he had a 92-s in 65 and i had a 67..............he beat me on 10 coins that were the easiest coins to buy...like i had a 79-s in 67..he had a 68....i had a 82-s in 67 ....he ahd a 68..........some of the others were 99-p........90-s.........91-s.......85-cc........97-p..........04-0.........

anyway the registry said he beat me......and im here to tell ya the regisrty is .....DEAD WRONG!!!!!

i could of sold my 92-s in 67....bought a 65......upgraded all the coins necessary to beat him by the numbers and put 35,000 in my pocket to boot

so you see there can be a reason!!!!!!!!

    until......... pcgs wakes up!!!!!!!

my goal is to find the monsters and i go where they are but i sometimes miss some.... so if you have any and want to sell IM THE BUYER FOR THEM!!!

  • monsterman,

    Cool story!

The weighting system obviously cant' be very good as its far to simplistic. I mean a 1-5 for each coin is not extremely scientific. Especially when a coin that is fairly flush at MS66 may be pop 3 at MS67 and so on where a coin rated a higher weight may have pop 20 at MS67.

BTW, when you own a Morgan worth more than most people's entire collections it can't be all bad image

the ngc system is VERY proprietary and is unknown......what ican tell you is they had the benefit of not making the same mistakes pcgs has with theirs.........you know garabage in garbage out......the only way i had to see if ngc`s is better ( because it is a series of acid tests ) is to plug in the pcgs`s sets ranked ahead of mine annd mine too to compare..............it put them all where they should go and mine went where it should be

i think the reason for this is the registries are for ranking the sets........in doing so $$$$ can buy your position and thats a fact of life.........ngc`s uses a more complex formula of which part of it is the cost of each coin for they feel the market place does directly reflect rarity.....pcgs does not do it that way so not to be offensive.....thus their system is of lesser accuracy and therefore of less meaning and value as a true rating

its the ole garbage in theory
