sign and trade w/ sonics and mavs may have taken place!, rodney rogers a net, shaq to have surgery..

SEATTLE TURNING THE CORNER
With talks at an utter standstill reports from the Seattle region indicate talk of a sign and trade deal involving Rashard Lewis to Dallas may have taken place. Frank Hughes of The News Tribune reports that Sonics general manager Rick Sund called the Dallas Mavericks this week to discuss a sign-and-trade proposal Lewis, but was not successful. Apparently, Sund floated that a deal would have to include at least 2 of the Mavs three big guns (Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Steve Nash) in order to be attractive, something the Mavs had zero interest in entertaining. Lewis’ agent Carl Poston is said to have met with the Rockets again, but similar to the Mavs, may only be able to offer him an exception based deal. With the Sonics setting the price so high a sign and trade seems unlikely.
ROGERS AGREES TO TERMS: Free agent Rodney Rogers has agreed to contract terms on a 3 year deal worth roughly $9 million to join the New Jersey Nets. Sources close to the Nets confirmed the reports from the region that suggested an announcement would be made today. Rogers had been entertaining talks with the 76ers for most of the summer, but contract impasses led him to explore other option, early this week he was torn between Minnesota and New Jersey and late yesterday a deal was reached with Jersey.
SHAQ TO HAVE SURGERY: Shaquille O’Neal may be shelved for 3 months, as reports from LA say he is going to have a Cheilectomy performed. A Cheilectomy is a chiseling away of bone spurs on both sides of the joint so that they no longer rub together. Shaq has had spurs in his toes for some time and the pain and discomfort has gotten the best of him. The procedure is supposed to be scheduled this week. This decision will likely force the Lakers to add another big man, if only to have someone to practice with in training camp

i dont think any single player of the big 3 is worth giving up for lewis.
if they gave up one, it wouldn't be Dirk or Nash
it would most likely involve Finley and some other Maverick (s) player
