Photos of Coins

I've played a little with a new camera, and with some guidance and advice from Russ and others, I'm getting close. So I decided to do two things: first is to upload pictures to the registry---unfortunately they are limited to 100K, so they're not great. And then I want to document my collection on a web site. For the moment, all I've done is about 20 of the JFK Proofs and none of my raw coins, which are interesting to me for a whole different reason: they provide a 90% or so complete list (many in lower grades but some in pretty good grades) of virtually everything (except gold and commemoratives) since about the civil war.

Any thoughts or comments about either? The web site is a real earliy version of a work in progress.

Pete's web site Note: only the PCGS JFK link does anything useful now, until I move a lot more stuff from my Excel spreadsheet to the new database

If you have any suggestions, PM me, as I will be gone for about a week, and this thread will be long gone by then.

I REALLY like that setup... looks GREAT! The pictures are also fabulous (maybe a little compressed on the large images, though)...

    Two suggestions:

Say which series' have pictures without having to click on it (ie, right next to the type of coin, or don't make a link until there are pictures)
Add the 1987 JFK... that is my birthyear... and you'd better have it up stat! image

    GREAT JOB!!! image

Thanks for your thoughts---you're right: there are some reflections is some of the images. I got rid of some of the extraneous links (the ones with no coins on the database yet);---and, your 1987 is there now!!

Really nice job! I especially like the way you have the PCGS label insert over the obv and rev of the coin in the website images. What software did you use to combine the images in that manner? I am very interested in building a photo database of my collection and really like the approach you have taken.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • I took a moderately high resolution (1280 x 960) picture of the obverse and reverse, and then used the tool that installs with Microsoft Office ("Micorsoft Photo Editor") to move things around and resize them.
