I’m curious – It seems to me that more men collect coins than women (true?). Also, have there been studies regarding the age distribution among collectors? I started at around ten years old, forgot all about it while going through college and my first few years of employment, and now I’m back at 34. Is this a typical pattern?
As an aside, things really have changed over the last 15 years. The Internet, certification services, etc. I think that even the designations red, red brown, and brown for copper coins are new. Internet auctions and forums like this one add a whole new dimension to the hobby. It should be interesting...

BTW - There was a thread a few months ago discussing male/female distribution and the number of 40+ year old males re-entering the hobby. I'll look for the thread and post a link.

That does seem to be the reacurring theme with us collector guys.Start at a young age,get into other things, romance, education, career buiding, child rearing, then when the proverbial dust settles,we rediscover our old little collection, and dive right back in.
