How many different animals have there been on US Coins?

Which animals have been used on US coins? There really aren't very many. Probably more different plants have been used. So far I have:
Eagle--most coins
Alligator--1999 Proof Platinum Eagles
Beaver--Albany and Wisconsin Halves
Horse-- LaFayette $1 and Stone Mountain
Buffalo--Nickel, Yellowstone and Buffalo $1
Buzzard--Flying Eagle Cent Just kidding on this one image

Sorry Adrian I don't think there's been an anaconda.

  • I'm pretty sure that's a three-toed sloth or something on the Sacajawea dollar.

(Just for the record, I saw a show on making the design for the Sacajawea dollar. The model who posed for Sacajawea was actually VERY attractive. I don't know what happened between her and the actual design, but it does not do her looks justice at all.)

    TomB,

I'm glad you brought that up. Russ has been on several of the coins I'm trying to buy on Ebay like an animal.image

Hey Tom B. I thought of that. It be fun to figure out how many people have been on US coins.

I heard they are going to strike a Kennedy half with a little picture of Russ underneath the bust. Is that true?

Just make certain that if you wrestle them away from him that they don't stink like an animal!imageimage

Lion on the 1860 $5 Morman gold
    Beaver on 1849 Oregon gold
Horse on 1850 Baldwin & Co. $10 gold
Horse, Dear (?) and Bear (?) on 1849 Massachusetts & California Co. $5 gold
Horse on 1985W Civil War Battlefield $5 commemorative

And, of course, the most commonly depicted animal on U.S. coins.. the HUMAN.

p.s. The "dog" on the San Diego commemorative half is actually a bear. image

Man, where did you go to school? Are owls and birds plants where you come from? They are not mammals but are most certainly animals.

Everyone has missed the most obvious animal on the US coins -> Humans

  • Have you ever heard the classification of "Fowl" And if your including Birds than why hasn't anyone mentioned the Eagle?

    Kenimage

  • OOps Sorry, Guess I spoke outta place.. Numish mentioned the Eagle 1st thing... so That will add the Fowl and more numbers !

    Hey Clackamas,
I just checked the rule book on the game 21 questions and on the first question, "Is it a plant, animal or mineral?" birds fall into the animal category. Guess I went to the school of long road trips!! imageimage
  • Some sort of ugly little hapless fish about to be eaten by an eagle. 2002 Platinum Proof coins. And a bonus on the same coin -- some sort of bug that the fish is trying to eat.

Unfortunately the way the coin is designed, it looks like a fish being ejected from a miniature volcano, about to be skewered by an eagle riding a broomstick. Sigh.
  • Supercoin !

some sort of bug that the fish is trying to eat.

Did you look at that bug and check it out for a possible tick ?
