For those that don't snipe at auction?

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
As one that doesn't have time, or the time to get into sniping auctions due to being an owner operated of a business in the evenings. and with auctions I see ending weekdays now, Is it better to wait towards the end to put in proxy bid so your bid won't be pushed up from the start or just put it in early and let it ride?

Thanks in advance for any replys,

Stman

If you are prone to forgetting things, bid early. If you can remember, bid as late as you can.

    stman,

Auction sniping programs are a piece of cake to use. Many are free or close to it. I use Auctionsniper.com which gives you your first 3 successful snipes for free and 3 free snipes for each referral. I have yet to pay for a snipe. I no longer worry about auctions that end at 2 in the morning or in the middle of the day while I'm at work.

  • For Proxy Bidders

If you want to win, bid fair market price and add $20 (almost sure you will win)

If you want to lose, bid more than 20% below market value. There will always be a sniper looking for a bargain.

    Happy Bidding,

As others said -- use a sniping service. My preferred service is PhantomBidder -- easy to use, nice features, and really cheap. My last snipe went off while I was riding at 36,000 feet in a Boeing 777 -- and it was a winner.

Fair market meaning retail? I've noticed dealers will usually come in at about sheet value bid unless it's a really nice coin. And a fair amount close at ask price. So I would consider fair market about 10% above ask price does that seem about right?

I win some auctions both ways. With eBay no matter what you bid you only pay the bid increment more than someone else was willing to pay.
I usually try wait until at least until less than 24hrs are left to eneter my max bid if not trying to bargain snipe.
